I'm thinking of getting a electric fly killer and hanging it in the tent at night. The thing i means is like one of funny blue lights that zaps every now and then when a fly goes in it. They seem to be about £10 for the smaller ones.

Is this another white elephant or do they work. Its always me that gets bitten by mozzies and never my wife (or kids). It must be my good looks and sparkling personality that attracts them   26

If a load of rubbish then i will stick to putting on the insect repellant which i hate.

Thanks for any replies.

Steve

I bought one, about 5inch dia and 10inches high? bloody useless!! the protective outer mesh is so small the flies bounce of that before they can get inside!!!

I don't know if you can get them here but I bought an electric Tennis racket in Thailand for a £2, I'm no expert with it yet but I sat with a local one night and he was using one to zapp mossies right left and centre! I couldn't even see em!! LOL

I have only ever found one fly in ours.  When I took the base off, it flew out again!  I guess you get what you pay for!

Had the same as steve, totally useless. We had ours on permanently for two weeks in catalunya and caught about a dozen mossies in two weeks. Gave a nice glow at night though. We usually squirt a fly spray before we go for a wee nightcap, no midgies, or we don't notice them after a nightcap

Well, that makes me feel a bit better, ours is useless too lol.

OH managed to catch a fly and threw it into the blue light - it flew out!

We reverted to an old fashioned swat, much more effective!

We got ours from Robert Dyas a couple of years ago but we're not convinced it's worth taking on trips. We had it on all night this weekend and it killed a few bugs but there were plenty more still flying around and certainly not attracted to it. I rather fancy one of those tennis racket zappers because at least you have some fun with it.

I'm not a fan of repellant either, but you can get some that don't stink quite so much as the cheap ones.

You're never going to beat the mossys so give 'em all you've got and make a fight of it. Fly killers, zappers, sprays, - all got be used!

Definately a fair weather camper. I don't like rain. Rain + Tent = Trouble.

Cheers again everyone for the replies.

I do have one of those tennis racquet fly swatter zapper thingies and boy they really work as well (£3 at local market).

I will keep to the citronella aftershave to keep them at bay.

Thanks again

Steve
