Both adults & children use a bucket in our tent (this is also only no 1's!). We empty it in the sluice in the wash blocks and rinse it out with disinfectant,
We have one and I'd recommend it, it's nice to have a 'seat', and it's sturdy. I put a kitchen bin liner in it (clipped in underneath the seat), with some cat litter (I think I got the idea from here). I then tie it up and put it in the regular rubbish. Saves on the trip to empty it, and also you don't get that liquid hitting bucket noise!
We have a luggable loo and do the same as "Bartleby" We put plastic bags inside and then fill with a few hand fulls of cat litter. Its so easy to empty then. We have a dog too, so having cat litter inside puts my mind at rest, because the dog could easily knock it over lol. When we pack up, the gas bottle fits nicely inside too
When I was using one it was a great place to store all things like cables, lanterns. The odd shaped oblects when travelling to & fro a site.
Now for a single camper I have a great system. I needed a compost bin & it came with a free rectangular scraps holder with lid. I have a far better use for it. Small, lidded, stable & inconspicious.

Life is not a rehearsal--It's the real thing !
As an alternative to the luggable loo, Kampa do the Kampa Khazi which we bought recently to replace our old Thetford.
We find it much less hassle and just empty it in the morning and give a good rinse with water and wipe out with a bit of disinfectant. You will find a disposal area on the campsite.
I appreciate the idea behind the use of cat litter to avoid spills and the tinkle noise - but IMO it seems as shame to consign a humble wee or two to a prison of non-biodegradable plastic bag to go into landfill!
By burning a few more calories of effort walking to empty it, it could be dealt with in the local sewage works with no real extra damage to the environment.

Just a thought...
We camp in farmers fields with no facilities and this year have treated ourselves to a luggable loo. Squatting over a freshly dug hole was a little too undignified for someone of my upbringing!!!!!!!
As you can imagine for us it is not just number 1's but also number 2's. As we have to bury all out toilet waste I use compostable bin liners, (Tecos's 10 litre sacks fit the loo perfectly) and for nightime wee's I put some compostable kitty litter into the sack in the loo just in case one of the kids knocks the loo over. Works a treat and I can rest easy knowing that in a few weeks everything will have composted away leaving no plastics and hopefully enriching the earth at the same time.

Kampa Khazi's are great - put a drop of that blue toilet liquid in and add a little water. Either empty into a normal toilet or the special toilet waste bit that some sites have (for caravans) and then rinse with water to clean.
my luggable loo is a godsend, i just put in a drop of zoflora and empty at the chemical disposal point, its money well spent, and zoflora is lovely smelling and bottle small, and i whole bottle lasted me a season, and with kids i woulnd't be without my loo, i pack the wellies and tennis balls in mine when travelling.
I love my Luggable Loo and would not be without it.Tips from this Forum suggested I use Zoflora which I do and it's emptied and rinsed out with a water jet at the disposable point and further Zoflora added and swilled around to freshen it up. Never had a problem. I line it with a good quality sack and load it with the EHU and anything else I can fit in it that would be suitable.
tinallkn4 I should have made myself clear - I line it with a good quality bin liner and put in the EHU for transporting backwards and forwards from home to camp etc lol
