Hello.

I'd like to connect a 2 or 3 metre four way extension to our EHU, (this one).

The extension will only be used within the tent. I have an Outwell Jamaica wardrobe that we use for a kitchen in the tent and I'd like to use the extension on top of that for a kettle, toaster, iplayer speakers, phone charger etc.

I'm not keen on putting a standard home style extension on the end, as i'd prefer it was at least splash proof, if not waterproof. (After dropping a jug of water in the tent this weekend just gone)...

I found this one on ebay, but the 10 metres of wire that come with it will clutter the tent unnecessarily. Also the EHU has RCD, would two RCD's be necessary?

Should I just go for a standard Wilcos type extension? Am I been over cautious?

Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations?

Cheers,

ADL

We use our normal extention from the ehu, in the tent and at easter we used an outdoor socket extn (normally for the lawnmower) for the kitchen tent.

We just take a normal extension lead that we use in the house (plugged into a similar hook up that you posted) - just so oldests phone can be on charge all the time as apparently it's a crime to stop her using MSN, even whilst on holiday.

The extension sockets 'live' under the larder cupboard and ehu plugs on a table.

Thank you for your replies... I'll get myself a 'normal' extension as it seems that'll do the job...

I would certainly agree with your caution, but most splash proof sockets loose their water tight rating whenever the a plug is fitted anyway.

If your hookup is already RCD protected, then the second RCD will not offer any further benifit or safety - and the site hookup point should also be RCD protected as well.

But I would suggest a quality extension lead with an impact resistant plug and socket (to limit accedental damage) usually DURAPLUG.  I dont quite understand your set up - but if you already have a 4 way hookup in the tent - then I assume a 2way extension socket would be more than ample?

I would also buy from a high street shop - as I am always concerned who wires these cheaper leads, and if the plugs and sockets comply or are imported - (and you thought you were being over cautious)!!

Cheers
