Hi

can anyone recomend an ultra warm sleeping bag that doesnt cost the earth. I am really mardy and get frozen at night - have had to abandon my really rubbish sleeping bag and take quilts and blankets and consequently this is causing real space issues in the car and roof box - PLEASE HELP ME KEEP WARM WITHOUT BRING A LORRY LOAD OF BEDDING!!!!!!

Well I used a Vango Nitestar 450 for my trip at Easter. I was as snug as anything. Admittedly I did take a duck down single Duvet too but to be hoonest I didn't really need it. I managed to get the Nitestar bag in its bag too which is a first for me!

Surplus army sleeping bag if you're on a budget and arent a fashionista.

Or if you have the wonga take a look at snugpak sleeping bags.

I've got a softie 10, slept in snow in a bivi under a basha....very warm.

I only have vango sleping bags, so can't talk about any other brands :) I'd say a Vango Nitestar 450 should do you, maybe take a liner also?

I was in my Vango Viper Down 500 and was very very toasty. I usually get a bit chilly in my Nitestar 350 in the early part of the season but fine when it warms up a bit more. My 7 year old used my 350 and was very warm but it's a thick bag for a young boy.

We have lots of sleeping bags most are vango though, like the marko polo's the ultra lite 450's and the kids had nitestars, but the warmest we use are Alpkit pipedream 600 down bags. you can't beat down!

quote from the site  http://www.alpkit.com/

You are the Radiator

The wisest word on sleeping bags and their ratings is that it is you who warms the bag, not the other way round. If you do not generate enough warmth to keep you warm then you will feel cold.

  • Summer: 15ºC to 8ºC / 3 to 5 TOG
  • Spring/Autumn: 10ºC to 0ºC / 5 to 8 TOG
  • Winter: 3ºC to -10ºC / 7 to 10 TOG
  • Mountain: -5ºC to -20ºC / 9 to 12 TOG
  • Polar/High mountain: -15ºC to -40ºC / 11 to 16+ TOG
  •

  • Heavier people sleep warmer than thinner people
  • Women sleep colder than men
  • Younger people sleep warmer than older people
  • Unfit people will sleep colder than fitter people
  • If you have the heating on in your house during the summer months then buy a warmer bag
  • Experienced users can get away with less, as they know the tricks of the trade
  • Eat well, keep hydrated and warm up before you go to bed. Star jumps are good
  • Don't forget that the mat you are sleeping on is a very important part of your sleep system. If you sleeping on snow or frozen ground then you need to be thinking of both a closed cell foam mat for insulation and a self inflating mat for comfort
