Hi Val, we bought one a few weeks back (minus the legs) in the Homebase sale for £3.99!!!!!! Yes £3.99 (not a typo) obviously well chuffed. Have had a quick trial run at home-as you do and it performed pretty well. We only did some bacon and sausages though - nothing too gourmet LOL.
Only thing is, scrubbing the griddle could get a bit tedious!!
We will probably take it for a proper trial during Whitsun.''
My sister used hers for the first time this weekend . It cooked bacon and sausages and burgers on the griddle part very nicely, no idea what it was like to clean though, her OH did the washing up. I thought it was a non stick griddle . it didn't appear to have bits stuck to it ?
Only thing that would put me off is that the legs have wingnuts to attach the rack under it. I just know I would be bound to lose these if I had one , and a bit of a pain having to dismantle it each time .
You can get a table top one for £40.
ive had mine for 2 seasons. i havent used the griddle i just use the rings underneath the griddle as a cooker. i dont fit the material bag/cupboard any more as i have another cupboard. its very awkward to fit the shelf to the legs when you have the bag fixed on.
We have the basic model without the legs or griddle but it's a nice straightforward stove. easy to connect up and keep clean. Obviously cant comment on the griddle bit.
I've used one of these for around four years now and must say that overall it is a good all round cooker. It is a bit of a pain to set up but as we generally don't go camping for anything less than 4 nights, it isn't too much of a problem to us. The Griddle can be a right pain in the a*$! to clean (especially if you've cooked some "saucy" food) but it is non stick to a point that if it is wiped down whilst warm it cleans up reasonably well. A big tip - do NOT use the griddle with the burners on full; you will find out how sticky non stick can be. Luckily this happened to me at home so I was able to put the griddle in the dishwasher.
Overall we are happy with the cooker and as yet have had no real issues with it (none that weren't of our own doing anyway!! )
It take's me about 20 minutes to put it together and im not bad at it these days,
I must admit I never use the hot plate, as it’s too much trouble to clean, I tend to use a griddle pan instead,
So would I buy it again? In a word NO but I also wouldn't rush to change it either, I would probably go for a Coleman duel fuel instead as you have no gas bottle to drag around.
I got one a couple of years ago from e bay for around £20. I think the cooker itself is great but the legs and shelf are a pain to put together. Also the side "windbreaks" that double as shelves arent very good . I like using the griddle but as others have said its hard to clean and you have to place the special tray underneath with water in it....all a faff! easier to use a pan!
I decided to ditch the legs this year and buy a stand (with more shelves) which I suppose defeats the whole object , but as I say the set up of the shelf especially was a right pain with fiddly wing nuts that you have to line up etc. I wish now I had got the cooker with a standard grill instead!
agreed its fiddly to put the legs and rack on but otherwise a sturdy piece of kit.
the griddle is a complete pig to clean but when cooking for a few its got a nice large cooking area. not overally impresses with the hobs, they are a bit flimsy but you get used to it.
my own personal opinion is its a nice bit of kit and glad i bought it. not to everyones tastes i know and expect that.
we did buy a suitcase stove as well to put pans on when the griddle was in use but found that carefully putting a pan on the griddle ( i know thats not what to do) worked.
