Been looking at the BP lightweight gas bottles to get the noseweight down a bit, anyone know if the distributor network is ok. Dont want to run out and have to travel miles for a refill.

do you carry 1 bottle or 2. They are now stocked at Homebase DIY. See here for distributors.

We generally find the BP gaslight bottles excellent; great that you can 'see' the gas and the connections are easy peasy and no fiddling about with spanners etc.

The only gripe we have is the cost that Homebase has increased the price by 40% (YES- 40%) since Feb/Marc of this year for a 10kg refill.

Feb 2009 - £19.99

March 2009 - £26.99

July 5th 2009 - £28.00

When I did call BP in May, they did ackowledge a price increase but they did not stipulate what the retailers had to sell it for although their recommendation was 10kg for £22.49.

There are 'alternative 'suppliers' but last time I looked on the BP site to check for stockists, the first 4 listed that I phoned didn't have a clue what I was on about. Just as well I phoned rather than just turn up. Frustratingly too is that we have 4 BP garages within 10 miles of home and none of them retail it.

There are so many things to help favour BP Gas Light but unless they get a better network of stockists, they will find people will stick with Calor or return to them out of frustration.

We went for the Calor lite instead as they fit better in the front locker and use the same pigtail as normal calor propane, so if we need to replace a cylinder and can't get the lite one a normal one will do. They have a dial to indicate how much gas is left.

We did like the look of the BP cylinders but were concerned about the size and stockists

Homebase do them, and I have one caravan accessory dealer 4 miles away and another 20 miles away who both stock them.   I wouldn't worry about availability - they are well worth going for.

Prices vary but I don;t think they're vastly different to any other gas except Camping Gaz which is about 4x the price of BP!

Personally, I'd go for Calor. Thinking to the future, Calor Lite will be available at all Calor outlets and the old metal cylinders will slowly be phased out (or reserved for industrial / commercial use).
There are far more Calor outlets than there are BP.
