Our motorhome is 9 years old, can anyone tell me if we will need to replace the aerial when everywhere goes digital? at the moment we have an LCD TV with built in Freeview. It is OK at some sites & you get 'no signal' at others, thanks.
i belive that you a wide band aerial however i could be wrong but will let you know later when i speak to my dad as thats what he does for a living. unless someone else beats me to it that is lol
If your getting the signals now they should be even better after the switchover i know up here in cumbria they have erected an even taller mast up on Caldbeck common and signal power will be increased
------------- I Think Therefore I Am I Think? eh? If all is not lost where is it?
You shouldn't ned a new aerial. At switchover the signal is supposed to be stronger than at present. We get a decent freeview signal with our 'flying saucer'.
Thanks for your help everyone. My other half went for some of that blue stuff you put in loos this morning at the camping shop & asked about aerials & he was told he'd have to pay £150 for a new one as our van was nine years old!!
If you are receiving a decent analogue signal then you should receive an adequate digital signal after the changeover.
Our area went digital last year and I do not know of anyone who had to buy a new aerial. Do not be conned into buying a so-called digital aerial, there is no such thing. Several high street retailers in our area received warnings for misleading people into believing that they needed a special digital aerial. If you currently receive a poor analogue signal then you may require a high gain aerial.
If your aerial is picking up digital in some areas now then it will pick up all areas when the switch happens everywhere. Our caravan is 11 yr old and so long as there is a signal at the site it picks it up.
Dont forget, the digital signal is going to be turned up to full capacity when we change over, so if you are capable of picking up freeview now in some areas, when the Digital upgrade finally happens you should pick it up everywhere. If not you could always invest in a small amplifier, which would probably be cheaper than a new antenna.

Cool campers use Delta Pegs.
The happiest people aren't the ones who have everything they are the ones who make the most of everything they have
some places will never get digital due to location (valleys etc) and an amplifier amplifying nothing will get nothing.
amplifiers are no more than an admittance an aerial isnt suitable for purpose
