I am about to buy a newer caravan and the awning size for the new one is given as 9.87. I currently own a size 12 Dormea which is for size range 925-950. I have been told that the awning can be made larger, does anyone know how this is done? Is a strip inserted in the middle or are the ends made longer? Will I have to buy new poles, are short extensions? If any one has had this done could they please advise on how good or bad a job was done, and where to go for a resonable price alteration?

Many thanks.

Spooky, we are just changing our van from a 949 to a 987.  We have an Isabella Commodore awning which is only 12 months old so decided to get it extended as too expensive to replace.   We have had this done before to another awning.  What they do is extend the back piece of the awning (the bit that attaches to the van) by inserting two triangle strips (one either side) that come to a point at the front of the awning.  So the front stays the same size it is simply the back that extends.  With the Penta that we had done you could not tell - it remains to be seen with this awning.  We are using the same company as we did last time which is "canvas repair" they have a website.  They will arrange collection, extension and then return the awning to you.  Give them a call they will advise you as I am not sure if different makes of awning make a difference.

Hope this helps.

We had our awning enlarged by a company in Stockton on Tees awning was only 2 years old when we changed vans, they made a very good job of it you can not tell unless you know it has been done and the triangle insert is the same colour and shade as the original material, also repair is guaranteed waterproof etc, i would recommend it to anyone, to replace awning £700 to enlarge £120 its a no brainer, Skiddly

Hi Bazzerg

I've had a couple of jobs done by these people HERE

They are based in Hull which isn't too far from Lincoln. They are really friendly, and have a fast turnaround time. I had an awning reduced by 2 sizes and had it back in 4 days, and you genuinely couldn't tell. They also fitted storm strap buckles to our porch awning and charged me just a fiver, which I couldn't believe.

Val is the boss lady, give her a call.

HTH

Paul
