I read in the camping magazine that you should have something on the ground under your sleeping mattress for insulation from the cold. Can anyone recommend a product that does that? We went camping on both of the last two bank hoiday weekends and froze when there was a heavy frost even with high tog, good quality sleeping bags, so would welcome advice. Thx.

Tent carpet , picnic rugs , cardboard boxes , there is a whole host of things that you can use really.

If you use a good self inflating mat you will not need anything under it to keep you warm.

We use picnic rugs underneath and a fleecy mattress topper on the top.

I put plastic backed picnic rug on top of the airbed the last 2 weekends , no other layers under airbed , not cold at all.

I use a foam mat & a good sleeping bag.  Never been cold in bed.

Thanks all for advice. My partner has come up with his own solution. He's got some insulation material for aircraft! We'll see how well it works!

We use the roll up foam camping mats under our airbeds and have not, so far anyway, had any problems with damp or condensation as reported by some here.
