just flicking through,comping and caravaning mag and come across "Peggy Pegs",anyone used them,apparently they are designed for hard/stony ground.I know you can get rock pegs but you can drill these in if needs be! Designed for the up and coming "Long Hot Summer"

If the ground was stony then you would need a hammer drill to get them in.

At £50 a set , it'll be long time before i'd be tempted by them .

*Sigh* Well they're not Peggy pegs, but we did take some screw-in ones to Norfolk at Easter. Have to admit they went in with a cordless screwdriver no problem, and came out really easily as well. Box of 20 cost £22 if I remember rightly, evenly spaced around the tent and the gaps filled with bog standard l-shaped ones.

I think they are aimed mainly at caravans and awnings which go on hardstandings.

You can get a lot of rockpegs,or deltas for £50.

I've been using Wurmi pegs for a number of years and have recently got a set of the Peggy pegs.  Both screw in but the peggy pegs are longer, stronger and have a different clip for attaching guy lines.

Any hoo!  I love them.  We camped on a very windy site where i'm fairly certain my tent would have taken off had I not had them.  You don't need to use millions, I have a set of 12 standard pegs and a screw in tool.  Cost about 20 quid and well worth it.

Quite often used to peg down caravan awning on hard standing. An electric drill seems to be a standard bit of kit for caravaners as they can be used for winding down the steadies and for jack for leveling

I've always used the hand winder for the pegs and they go in fine, I would recommend them for normal tent camping too!

FYI the 50 quid set is 30 standard pegs with clips, 20 small pegs, the driving tool (for drill and by hand) and a bag too!

I'm begining to sound like i'm on commission, I wish I was!  They're cool and have always felt more secure than the daft pegs you get with tents!

My only recommendation is that you get your tent square with the daft metal pegs first then screw in... it can be a bit tedious screwing them in and back out again!

I'd rather be "uncool" and have the £50 to spend on other camping gear.
The plastic pegs that come as standard with Outwell tents are very good,never had a problem.
These Peggy Pegs seemed aimed at caravanners who are looking for a new toy to play with.

I use coach bolts from screwfix about £10 for a box of 50. Still experimenting at the moment but have not experienced any problems. A force 10 gale might produce some though.

I've gone the coach bolt route, too - using cordless drill to drive them. Cheaper and tougher than any plastic peg. A large washer works well for securing pegging points on the awning. It's certainly easier and quicker (and quieter) than banging in about 40 rock pegs.

Yep - on the clifftop at Cornwall (Trewethett Farm Caravan Club Site, Tintagel) last year! No problem with the pegs, but did lose two or three rubbers, which snapped and were quickly replaced. Nothing to do with the pegs, though - just old rubber.
