(/clean answer mode on) our cig lighter pump has nozzles that get smaller and smaller. you take them off depending on what you are blowing up. if you take them all off your left with an end the size of a 10p this is great for air beds. the pump was a fiver from waudbys i think. it's bright yellow

for the real answer see the nookie in a tent thread lol

Have just looked at the end of ours and it is tiny, definitley not 10p sized.  I'll have to keep an eye out for a bigger one...

If you like to save space by using 'vacuum bags' for excess clothes, blankets, sleeping bags etc. then a pump is obviously essential for striking (as you don't want to bring the hoover with you!).

However, the nozzle is too small to cover the valve on most vacu-bags until we discovered... ta da da... 'space discs'. What the heck are they, you ask. Well, if you have young kids, they are the annoying foam rings that are fired from a 'space gun' thingy. Basically a foam disk about 2" diameter with a 1/2" hole in the middle - the perfect adapter for your airbed pump to suck the air from your vacu-bag.

Please do not adjust your mind... there is a fault in reality

Mattyantz - thankyou, thankyou, thankyou...

Having checked the nozzles on my dad's pump (being the one that we tried last and was therefore still lying around) I went onto the Go Outdoors website to have a look, and showed OH the various options when he got home.  Oh, he says, we've got a nozzle like that on the battery pump.

So off we trot to retrieve said pump and an airbed from the loft, and hey presto it fits the big hole.  Stand by with the watch to time the latest attempt (previous best with dad's pump - 15 minutes).  After connection and turn on, OH says "right, I'll be back in 10 minutes to see how you're getting on".  He got halfway down the stairs before I called him back, by which time airbed was inflated!!!!  Probably about a minute!

You may well have saved not only our future camping trips (as he was seriously unimpressed at having to spend nearly 2 hours inflating beds) but also our marriage!!

Thankyou again...

PS  I can't believe we had the right nozzle all along and just sat looking at it.  Not only were we late for yesterday's BBQ but he missed a quick trip to the pub first....

Nitrogen? works well but expensive. i like the diving bottle. we are buy a compressor and some bottles to fill a rescue path we have might have to borrow one to test on the airbed. though we have an areobed that goes up quick anyway
