Hi.
Was looking at the Thule 900 Back-up Box but for us it works out too expensive at the moment. Had a look at possible alternatives and noticed the Bak-Rak.
Wondered if anyone had any experience of them.
Thanks.

Hi tumblemoon.

I already had the Thule 902 Euroclassic Pro 2+1 bike carrier, since 2006, and last year bagged a 900 BackUp Box for £140, which clips onto the 902, superb bit of kit and will take 420Lt although load is 50Kg max, nice alternative to a RoofBox, no car park nightmares etc, and certainley adds load of space to my VW Golf Mk5 Hatch 5 door, and still leaves the possibilty of a RoofBox if needed, anything to avoid using a trailer for me, but I have not ruled that option out either!.

Hi.
Thanks for the reply.
Looks like it would be about £350 for the base and box. I wonder if there may be companies hiring them though.
The Bak-Pak does look a lot more affordable.
Definitely no trailer for me!

I bought the base and box yesterday, from autocraze. Cost me 317 including the lock, and the chappies in the shop helped me assemble it so i could tow it home :D

Hi Tumblemoon,

I bought a BakRak earlier this year, and used it for the first time this last bank holiday.

Easy to use just fix it to the towbar with one bolt, I think it was about £90 direct from Bakrak, well made in the UK, always a plus.

Loaded it up with a Khyam XXL, annexe, and wind break; no problems. Almost forgot it was on the back of the car.

You will also need a number late and lighting board (£13 + £19-99 respectivly from Halfords) if you intend to load it up past your car number plate and lights.

I also fitted a towbar to the Scenic (£88 from Towequipe on Ebay) so the whole lot was about £220ish not too bad.

Hope this helps

Hi.
Thank you for the replies.
I think the Bak-Rak is the one we will go with.
Was thinking of maybe mounting a storage box on the base. Unsure of how to go about it though.
Western Towing has the Bak-Rak for £77.31.

ratchet straps will hold a storage box on the rack and you will need a couple to stop the box exploding

Hi.
Thanks for the reply.
Would ratchet straps stop the box shifting on the base?
If the box is larger than the base, would it need mounting on something?
Thanks.

I don't bother just hook the ratchets under the bars and back onto themselves and pull tight they don't seem to move till we unclip them at our destination
