Hi anyone -

I've been searching online for days and have nearly lost the plot!

I'm looking to buy a roofbox and roofbars for my 2008 VW Golf mk V 5 door yet their are no lugs/rails/or any tracks or holes so can anyone help - does this mean that they clamp on? Been looking at Thule bars yet they are around £100 - bit steep any recommendations?

Also roofboxes - I like the Thule Karrite Odyssey 470 litre - I need to get in a roofbox the following: Outwell L Hartford tent, poles, tent extension/canopy, and 2 holdalls!! Will the 470l be big enough or too big? AND will it be ok to fit on my VW Golf??

P.S - DONT BUY THE HALFORDS ROOFBOXES THEY ARE CARP!! Flimsy and rubbish spend the money on the Thule's

                 I got the Mk5, but it's being changed over in July, for the Mk6 (BlueMotion), company car, anyway I use a Thule 900 (420lt) BackUp box instead of a RoofBox, as I already had the Thule 902 Pro bike carrier, onto which the BackUp fits, very neat solution, as for using a roofrack, I notice the Mk5 has threaded (5mm) sockets above drivers/pasenger doors at the front, but nothing above the rear doors, bit odd, although I am sure VW do an OEM roofrack, just not sure how it fit's, as for me, gutted that my Mk5 towbar will not fit the Mk6 especialy as we only keep the cars for two years, more expense, but hey ho!.

Thanks for reply - I've checked and looks as though I'm gonna have to do the full on Thule footbars etc., oh well and I checked and sure enough the mark 5 is a clamping system - I bet VW charge the earth so will call them ask what to they advise to get and shop around!
