Can anyone recommend a 3 season XL sleeping bag? Hubby struggled with his normal sized bag due to having braod shoulders so we want to buy a bigger one. I have just been looking at one by Royal that might fit the bill, are Royal ones any good?

I am 17 stone and use the Aztec Swallow 300 XL, it's 90 cm across the top and 60 cm across the bottom, it's a 2/3 season rated bag but suits me because i don't like to be too warm, everyones different

My OH on the other hand is the ice queen, she likes to be toasty warm, she has the Aztec Swallow 450, rated 4 season, this one is 80 cm across the top and 55 cm across the bottom

Hope that helps

I have these and would recommend them. Very warm , but I don't like the constriction of a mummy bag .

We have two of these or last years equivalent which was the Vango Astral XL and they are really spacious.

You can zip them together if you get LH and RH zips.

i have one of these

it's lovely and snuggly, with flannel inside so it's really soft. A hot water bottle to hug and I've been plenty warm enough when it's been close to or possibly even freezing outside this year.

It's 3 season and 110 cms across - plenty big enough for broad shoulders and broad everythings!

I've been lurking for a couple of months after the OH got me to go camping for the first time - but had to register to reply to this as i spent a while hunting out the right bag for me (mummies make me claustrophobic and i get really cold!).... hello everyone!

Hello popculturegirl welcome to the forum.

I agree with you, mummies make me claustrophobic too hence getting the XL bag. I wouldn't describe myself as XL but I'm quite tall and like a bit of space around me.

Riversway Laisure do a superking size bag-- 60oz--L 203cm x W 92cm, my hubby is very very broad, 6ft 7" tall and a very chunky cuddly man and he fits in with room to spare. They are a lovely bag and I suppose you could try and get them from somewhere nearer to you.  They are a lovely quality, the inner flap around the zip for extra warmth is great, we winter camp as well as summer camp and they have never let us down.Good Luck, Gary

my friend has just bought one of these and he is a broad shouldered guy.

Vango Nitestar 300 XL SQ Myrtle

Ready to buy?

£39.99 (Including VAT at 15%)

Introduced into the Nitestar range in 2004 to cater for those who need that little extra bit of space. The Nitestar 300 XL Square have all of the attributes of the 300 Square but offers 15cms in length (235cm) and a whopping 30cms in width (110cm) making this one of the largest bags for a single person in the market. Again, classed as a 2/3 season bag, we reckon it will see you just fine through spring and early autumn.

Length: 230cm
Chest: 110cm
Weight: 3.5kg
Pack Size: 32x28cm
Seasons: 2/3
Extreme Temperature: -19°
Comfort Rating: 4° to 20°

Similar in size to the Vango mentioned above but almost half the price are the Coleman Hudsons. Amazon have the 300 (2/3 season) for £22 and the 450 (3/4 season) for £25. We've just bought the 450 for my wife and she loves it, but it is big.

That said, I think the Coleman Hudsons are probably more comparable to the Vango Wilderness range http://www.outdoorworlddirect.co.uk/acatalog/xlbag-wildernessxl.html whereas the Vango Nitestars have shoulder baffles and slightly better materials and design.

Last year, we got 2 Sunncamp super deluxe kingsize bags (open out to the size of a king size quilt) for under £15 each from Awnings Direct. They're almost £20 now, but very good for the money. They're incredibly warm.

Another vote for the Vango Astral XL (now the Galaxy GX, as Gingerlily pointed out).
