We have bought a 2nd hand outwell oklahoma daytent to use as a kitchen and dining room. I have a metal cooker stand which I keep my pots etc on but I ideally would like a larder to keep my food in.

Up to now the cooker has always been outside rain :-(   or shine and the food was kept in plastic folddown crates in a bedroom pod in the main tent. The problem is that when we go with friends the food you want (cereals or bread etc) always seems to be in the other familys tent. My kids get up too early (or when they don't the other familys kids do).

I though if we put all the food in the daytent this would solve the problem. However it doesnt have a groundsheet and hopefully the weather will be kind and so it would be nice to have it as a gazebo mainly and not need one.

I dont think the plastic crates would be ok in the daytent (bugs etc) so would I be best advised to get a larder? and which one? I am on quite a tight budget and need to get a luggable loo also as kids too big for the potty now.

I have seen this http://www.tkqlhce.com/click-1428744-10294381?url=http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/0183446/Trail/searchtext%3ECAMPING+SHELVES.htm but would it be top heavy and prone to falling over?

Any advice welcomed!!!

Thanks

Gee

Hi, I use a plastic 4 drawer tower, about £15 in most places.   Small footprint, contents can be seperated into drawers so no rummaging around in a crate to find things.   Having said that there is only 2 of us so a larger family might need 2 of them but still cheap at the price.

Hi Gee,

We recently got an Outwell unit paid about £28, 4 shelves inside and a work top its vented and totally bug proof and stands on 4 adjustable feet so the main body of the cupboard is off the ground. It comes in a bag about 2' square and about 5" wide when packed up and goes together very easily and is sturdy when up.

I don't personally see the point in these larder things, you are packing things in boxes or bags to take them out and put on a shelf which you have to carry as well??

The drawers are a good idea but I wouldn't fit them in my boot, We use the coolbox for perishables and seperate boxes with a lid, for packets or this year we bought cheap coolbags from poundshop. and have everything in them.

I have that very larder Gee, here it is in my utility tent:

Great to store food, pans, drink etc in - I hate rummaging around in boxes and with the larder everything is easy to see.  You can get loads in it as well.

Well worth it IMO

The utility tent is the Outwell Red Sea

It's polycotton so pricey at around £120 ish

Size is

Saw the one on argos, you mean this one?

Handy Tent.

Looks exactly the same dimensions

So really down to cost/material

I love that it has a frame so out come the S hooks to hang my utensils on - thats my favourite bit lol

Just had a quick read of some of the reviews on the argos pne - might be worth a read http://www.tkqlhce.com/click-1428744-10294381?url=http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3400047/Trail/searchtext%3ETENT.htm#tabrev

I have bought a larder for our longer trips, otherwise I find myself spending half the holiday bent double digging around in crates for stuff.

Another thank you to woofers here! I bought the larder from Argos. It was the last one in stock at our local store. I've just put it up and like gee06 can't wait to use it. We also are going on a group trip at the end of June!

I might put sticky back plastic on the shelves, though, as I know how messy my family can be, especially as I'm going to put it opposite the sink and will be taking out the wardrobe from our FC.

Thanks again. It was your picture that sold it to me. Just one question - what did you put on the top of it so that you could stand the washing-up liquid (?) on top of it?

Edit - I've just taken another look at your photo, and I can see that you've stood it the other way up than in the instructions. Brilliant lateral thinking!
