Just getting back into this camping thing with the kids.  Been out for new sleeping bags. Tent has sewn in groundsheet in the sleeping areas.

Already spent loads of ££££££ so without going over the top, is it best to put something under the sleeping bag? Argos do a camping mat for £4.99 are they any good?  Would it be better to invest in airbeds?

If so, do they take up much room when not in use as the car is getting very full now.

Hi I started years ago on the ground then mat -airbed and now a campbed (small 4 prong one for weekends and proper one for weeks)  Basically you have to off the ground, people on here who have an airbed,  seem to have to put something above or below it to insulate from the cold. Airbeds can weigh a bit, so the choice is yours.

It appears to be a matter of choice then. The important thing is getting yourself off the ground. It won't bother me so much as my 12 year old daughter. She can moan for england.

Combination of adolescense and just being female i think

Only kidding. Don't want to offend all the female campers, i might bump into you one day

9mm thick foam mat (£10 ish)

Steel framed cam bed (£10)

Self inflating mat (el cheapo Lidl version) (£10)

Thanks Stu.

Just realised that I had overlooked pillows for our trip.  I can do without but i suspect the children will want them so had another look at argos and they have reduced the price of their airbeds which include pillow. £15 for the double & £10 for the single.

Probably still take up less space than taking the childrens pillows from home and i already have very good 12v inflator so thats not an issue.

Thanks everyone for the good advice.

Off to Cornwall and spent last night watching the news about flash floods around Bude.

What a confidence boost!

Off to a Haven site as well and they don't seem to have a very good following on this site. Oh well, theres always food & alcohol
