It depends on what amps the campsite runs on. Unfortunately I don't know the ins and outs - only that you probably will have to choose between a cuppa and the fan heater!
seriously- you have to watch the current rating, although the campsite should tell you- you probably only have about 10 amps to play with- I work on this therory, and work it out according to wattage- 10 amps will allow you about 2500 watts- so a 3 kw heater will possibly blow the trip.
your EHU is likley to have a 10Amp breaker in it so if you exceed that then you are likely to trip it.
Sites offer between 6Amps and 16 Amps so you need to ask what they supply to make sure you dont trip their circuit. And as is often the case the breaker is locked out of sight, so dont trip this.
just look at the labels on your appliances and tot up the watts.
1380 watts is 6 Amps
2300 watts is 10 Amps,
3680 watts is 16 Amps,
our house kettle fires up at 3000w (3Kw)so is a no go, the camping kettle we have is only 1Kw) , so do your sums.
now im confused i thought a house kettle would be ok, i am taking a normal kettle, toaster, and an electric portable grill, and we will be staying at charity farm, does anyone know whay thier supply is?
I use my EHU to inflate the airbeds and charge up the phones and DS's. I know I could use the car but it saves my battery and if it is raining or if the car isn't next to the tent. I don't take anything else but a friend who is coming with me is camping for the first time and wants all mod cons!
The Guides in my area are doing 'back to basics' this weekend with canvas tents.
Never found it a problem while away with domestic appliances. We just take a bit of care and don't think about it much. I switch off the heating for the few minutes that I use my hairdryer or the toaster. Going to get a micro soon for this summers longer holiday, but just a normal 700 watt one, but again will switch off heating for the few minutes it is in use for the start up power.
My straighteners are no problem. With heater on, we can use the TV, or radio and have lights on and charge phone / batteries etc. I use gas for kettle so not sure how much power it a kettle would use.
I worried about that before we started caravanning but have never found it a problem to be honest.
