I've just got a double Aerobed Overnighter from Dunelm Mill for the bargain price of £30. Unfortunately I've just realised it will only blow up when plugged into the mains and we camp without EHU.

Any bright ideas? Would an inverter work? If so, please explain s l o w l y how I work out which one! Or do I have to bite the bullet and hook up to the mains?

Thanks in anticipation...

Decathlon are doing a rather useful rechargable 12v / 240v pump for £15, I bought one last month and used it last week. We charged it at home before we left and it inflated 2 airbeds and was still puffing. You can recharge it from the cigarette lighter while away if necessary. In fact, when I bought it I thought it was just a 12v / 240v pump, it didn't realise it was rechargable. How pleasently surprised was I when I got home!

Thanks for that advice. So, does the 12v pump plug into the same hole in the aerobed as the mains pump? I can't get to a camping shop to look at one this week to see.

We have an inverter and find it very useful for our airbed plus we use it for charging up mobiles/cameras and so on (obviously ensuring car battery is not drained!)

But having clicked on that link the one from decathlon looks excellent!

Sprocket - what size inverter do you have for the airbed? There is a mind boggling choice and I can't work out how much power the pump uses! We were thinking of getting one anyway for charging phones, MP3 players etc.

Decathlon don't deliver & we are in deepest Somerset so can't take advantage of that fantastic offer on the pump

The charged up aerobed pump works for about 4 inflations (or did for us last summer). After that we just plugged the pump into the cigarette lighter and inflated it from there. (I should say we were touring and so the beds were up and down every day!).

Just ask a carvanner! When camping with someone who turned up with one of these beds (had it's own attached electric pump, couldn't even use a different one) I just sent him off to ask a lady with a caravan. She was happy to oblige. 17

I also got the cheap aerobed overnighter from dunelm mill and am also a non -EHU camper.  The aerobed valve will not allow it to be pumped up by any other pump other than the mains one supplied. Looks like we either need to buy the Aerobed Pump light £19.99 or try using an invertor anything above 150w should do the trick

You should be fine for a few inflations on one charge with the pump. Then you'd have to inflate it directly from the 12v as I don't think you can inflate the bed with the pump technically "charging" from the mains (or presumably an invertor). You could obviously recharge the pump during the day on the invertor and use once re-charged.

We have 2 and put them up and down last summer 8 times each on a trip and only had to use 12v cigarette fitting once.

Brilliant - I was just about to start a thread asking for suggestions for a rechargeable pump - and I work about a mile from a Decathlon store!!

In this form, I should go out now and buy a lottery ticket...

This site is just a mine of collective information! As it happens, my dad has a spare inverter in his shed (like you do) so will be lending it to us for the trip.

By sheer coincidence Lidl have got 150 watt inverters coming in on 11th June.

Cheers guys! Only 47 sleeps til we go.
