Just bought our first caravan an Elddis Tornado after a few years with a Pennine Pulman trailer tent. The caravan didn't come with an awning and after hours of searching the internet I'm a mind boggled as to what is a good buy? Looking to spend not much more that £500 if we can help it. Any ideas for us or help much appreciated.
I was looking for an awning a couple of months ago and found it hard to get good quality comparison information on the brands out there.
I initially had a similar budget to you and tried looking on Ebay for a secondhand Isabella with poor results (item was mouldy and not as described so I walked away).
I then decided to buy new and looked at a few brands such as towsure's Insignia, the Pyramid range, NR awnings etc.
We came across an article by Pracital Caravan recommending Harrington as an award winner so set off to Discover in York to buy one.
In the end we walked away with a new Isabella Commodore Royal, heavily discounted as it was a 2008 model but twice our budget - Ouch.
Hopefully that should be it for at least 5 years.
hi solitary, you didant say where you are from, we have just part ex our elddis,we have a 8.8m awning in red we have used it 3 times, sorry i cannot remember the name of it,we are looking for £150 if u are interested please ring on 07986515947 thanks
I got one from Discover about 1 year ago and its still going strong. They seem to be the sole distributor for Harrington awnings on the internet. I'm really happy with mine. My awning has really done me well for the last 5 or 6 trips. I don’t know how I’d survive my trip without it. Harrington awnings have been around since 1924 and I must admit I can understand how they’ve been around for so long. I’m a big believer in tried and tested, so a company which has proven itself over the years is always a good indicator to the quality of their products. My awning was voted awning of the year in 2008 by practical caravan magazine, which was one of the main reasons why I bought it.
If anyone is a keen on caravanning and want to make their holidays a little bit more relaxing get an awning! I can’t say it enough; the space makes any caravan a home from home.
