We're thinking of getting one of these, along with a handiholdall instead of a roofbox (we're looking to change the car, and could use the handirack on both cars)

Does anyone have one, and if so, what are your experiences of it?

Thanks in advance

We have one and it's great. We didn't bother getting the holdall and just use the tent bag plus lots of straps and a tarp that is well tied down and wouldn't change anything. We have two cars and so the handirack is so handy.

Hi

We got the handirack and holdall and used it for the first time last week. We thought it was a really good bit of kit. Went on really easily and the holdall was a really good size, we managed to pack, 3 double fleece blankets, clothes for 3 of us, 4 picnic rugs, 3 pillows, 3 sleeping bags that's all I can remember, but for us it is was great as we have don't the largest boot in the world.

We have the rack and holdall. The only problem is the shape of the holdal once packed so now we pack it before we attach it to the rack and it looks more holdall shaped and less like something an elephant sat on shape lol

In ours we have had... ready for this?

3 tables (large, fold up stool with table top and a mini table

Foldng tent cupboard

Tent carpet, picnic rugs for pup tent as carpet, De Waard bedroom floor cover

2 airbeds (1 single 1 double) with fleece covers,,

3 sleeping bags with inners

Mini oven

washing up bowl

Tent light

Battery light

3 inflatable pillows and covers

EHU cable

Plus other bits

As long as the weight isnt over 50 it is fine

Angie

Our Handiholdall arrived last week, and we have already got the Handirack, although have not actually been anywhere with either of them yet.  We tried fitting the Handirack to the car and it seemed very easy.  Have set up the Handiholdall to see how much we can get into it, and so far have fitted in the tent (Vango Albany 600), four sleeping bags, four single airbeds and a double aribed, separate grounsheets for under the tent and two fleece blankets.  There was still plenty of roomleft in it for lots of other bits and pieces, but the rest of the stuff was still in the loft.

This now frees up a lot of the boot, so I will actually be able to take clothes with me on holiday!!  We bought our Handirack direct from the company and bought the Handiholdall from Simply Scuba/Simply Hike, via Quidco so we got 8% cashback on it.  The price for the holdall was £68.00 plus £4.95 postage.  I've just looked and they do the Handirack for £46 + postage.

We're certainly quite happy with both.

Although we've not used it yet, we picked up a handirack a couple of months ago.    Got it because having changed cars, I would need a new fixing kit for the roof bars and box.     With a small car I didn't want roofbox on all the time, as I did with the Nubira.
The rack is easy to put on - and we are now talking of getting the holdall to go with it.
Not only have I moved from an estate to small car/lost the roof box on the car on a permanent basis, I have also lost the space between the kids, as it is now taken up with a large puppy dog.

This bit of kit will mean that I can run to site with it on the roof, take it off when there/running around, put it back on for coming home.

Excellent, thanks everyone. Sounds like they are as good as they sound. Looking at roof boxes quickly on Halfords site this evening, the handirack and handiholdall are much cheaper than a roof box, and they look less hassle too.

I didn't realise you could get so much in them! I think Angie wins hands down though!

Thanks all

Mookey , it is all about how you pack :)

You should see what I can get in our Fiat Punto lol

Even better, you should see what I can get in my handbag 17

Wouldnt put the tent up there though. Not only is it (with the poles) almost the maximum weight but why lift it up there when it can go in the boot and it is the first thing you need when you arrive on site :)

Hi mookey316, I have a Handy rack for sale if you are interested. It is about a month old and I have used it once for about 1 hour. It is absolutly as new still in the box.

I got it to transport 2 kayaks I had bought but they were too unstable on the roof so I have had to get a steel fixed rack.

Regards Rob.

Ooh, no, the tent wouldn't go up there. It's bad enough getting it into the boot 17

We had planned to put all the camping stuff up there as once you get where you're going you need to take it off the roof anyway, as they don't recommend you leave it up there.  So it seemed to make sense to put all the stuff we were going to need first in it.

The maximum weight for the Handirack is 80kg, and our tent is only about 21kg per manufacturer's details, so should be okay surely?  I'm going mainly by the fact that OH was able to lift it with the tent etc in!

Hi Mookey, How does £30 plus postage sound?

I would have to make enquiries about postage cost but I would guess about £5

I have never even heard of these things until now and sounds fab for me to put on my little Yaris17

We have roof bars and a roof box but fit a bigger car and to be honest, I don't want roof bars put on my little Doris anyway so these are a much better option17

It always rains on tents. Rainstorms will travel thousands of miles, against prevailing winds for the opportunity to rain on a tent.
