I see Lidl will be having these in on monday

Hi smh582003,

Worth checking out some past threads on here about these as there were alot of mixed reviews before you shoot off and buy one. Some said they where ok and others said the dish was too small for uk use. I dont have a clue what that means but possibly worth checking out all the same.

I'm no expert in these matters but................

The advert says that the system does not pick up freeview channels. Does this make the system an analogue system then? If it cannot pick up freeview, is that because it is not a digital system?

Whether you could use the satellite dish in conjunction with a digital set-top box is anybody's guess?

I'm sure that someone will put me right.

Good point emmajdunn, I understand that a lot of these box's get returned as some buyers connect them to a TV aerial and wonder why it won't work, how they do this is beyond me as a TV aerial connector is normaly a Belling-Lee conector, and a satellite connector is an "F" plug, although there is nothing stopping a buyer from putting an "F" conector onto a normal terrestrial TV coax, in fact you can even get hold of a Terrestrial TV aerial connector to Satellite "F" connector.

But freeview channels are available via freesat aren't they? Could this set not receive freesat?

It does not say anywhere in the advert that it is a digital system. Could it not just be a swanky way of receiving your normal five terrestrial channels? Perhaps they're being sold off at that price because of the gradual change over from analogue to digital signal?

I'm just curious because at that price I'd be tempted to buy one (subject to previous thread about availability!) but only if I could be sure that it would receive the extra digital channels.

                  Not all the Freeview (terrestrial) channels are available via FTA satellite, but all are available via Freesat (BBC/ITV), but not the Freesat from Sky, that is different again, the Lidl system is a Digital FTA satellite receiver, and is definatley not Analogue, the receiver is exceptionaly good, it is a re-badged Comag unit, that will work far better than any Freesat or Sky Box, mainley due to it's far superior and more sensative tuner, my advice would be to get the the Lidl system, but ditch the supplied dish, in favour of a 55cm unit, the lnb and receiver in the Lidl sytem are worth far more than £29.99 on there own alone. 

Hubby wants me to get one but i've told him we dont need one so he says but you get E4 all becomes clear  big brother can't stand it but he loves it grrr.

 i would have one but hubby refuses to take tv camping so i go along with it...... however he has taken fishing up which i dont do so i might tell him i have to have one so i can watch loose women whilst he is fishing lol

2 things spring to mind:

1. why does anyone want to take a TV camping?

2. Surely a dish outside your tent just advertises "satellite system and TV in this tent" - would it still be there after your day at the beach?

                   So sad that you should think that way, it is only a stuff, you realy should have more faith in your fellow human beings. I have been camping since 1962 and never had anything stolen, common sense and a few sensible precautions is mostly what I use, I read on a thread here the other day, about a site were bikes were being stolen on a regular basis, the site was located close to a dodgy housing estate, and there was no fence around the site borders, in my business it is all about reducing the risk, as you can never eliminate risk as it is always there.
