Hi.
We have an excellent three way fridge but its big and heavy and I don't usually want to be stuck either using ehu or lugging the gas bottle for shorter trips so am a big fan of cool boxes.
Over the years we've had various coolboxes and they do vary enormously in quality and ability to keep things cold, so its worth shopping around. Its also worth making sure you get one that's a reasonable match to your needs as the bigger they are, the harder they are to keep cold and also its hard to keep things cold if there's too much dead air or space inside the box.
I have just been away for a week and really tested my new Icey Tek cool box over seven days of daily temperatures in the high twenties: it was brilliant!
I had chosen an Icey Tek because it was the only high performance cool box that came in a size as small as 25 litres and I didn't want anything bigger. I prepped it with a £1 bag of supermarket ice cubes the night before I left home, added the milk, cheese, food, wine etc plus a couple of litre bottles of frozen water on the morning as we left. I put a layer of bubble wrap over the top of the food to hold all the cold air down and around it, if you see what I mean. While we were away the only two other things I did, other than adding more food and drink supplies, was to add one more bag of supermarket ice midweek and to put a soaking wet towel on top of the box each day. Everything stayed really, really cold and when we arrived back home a week later there was still some solid ice inside the original frozen water bottles.
Can't ask for more than that! And I can't emphasise enough how very hot and sunny it was every day while we were away. Test passed with more than flying colours if you ask me.
