We need a heater too. Just wondering how much light the halogen will give off and if this will be annoying or not! But then I doubt we will leave it on at night, just use it to take the chill off and fan heaters seem quick for this. Off to Argos we go!

I've just bought an old style paraffin wick stove, with the idea that it will double up as a heater, five pounds off ebay brand new in box. Not pressure, just a short chimney with a pan rest on top. The heat is fantastic even when turned down. Not tried it in the tent yet, but I'm sure it will do the job as it gives off more heat than my Vapalux lamp, and that does a pretty good job. It's a Chalwyn OMA stove, in fact I've now won two on ebay. Obviously not suitable for leaving on all night incase of accidents.
I just did a google search for this stove, and it looks like the new in box one, should have stayed just that. I think lighting it has knocked some value off. It looks like it's a collectors dream, but I bought it to use it !

------------- Canvas tent, paraffin light, petrol stove. Heaven
I'd rather be kayaking.
Spent up, not pent up, just had my new tent up.

I've seen some parabolic heaters that screw to the top of Campingaz bottles. Not sure if they are any good. Maybe someone will tell us. But they come in 1 and 2KW versions so probably decent amount of heat for a tent.
I would say about fan-heaters that they do make noise, which in a tent travels a fair distance. Just a point.

We use a remote controlled halogen heater that oscillates so the heat doesn't just hit one spot.
The remote control goes to bed with us so the heater, far enough out of the way to be safe, can be switched off when we settle down to sleep then on again in the morning to heat the tent before we venture out of our sleeping bag! It does give off a fair bit of light so we wouldn't leave it on overnight but it's a lovely warm light when you do want it.
It has an auto shut-off in case it's knocked over and we did worry about the dogs doing that but they're smart enough just to lie in front, soaking up all the heat and preventing it reaching us!!
We've also used this heater in a previous caravan (one that didn't have blown air heating) and in the awning.

Sorry, got it at the Caravan and Camping Show at the SECC about 4 years ago. I have seen them in hardware stores, usually for aobut £20 - £30 and £20 is what we paid for it.
If I can find one online, I'll post a link.
