Don't have that particular one - we have a Fiama Bi-Pot but they all do the same job!!We paid £35 for ours and got 4 toilet rolls and the chemicals for free.

Personally we wouldn't be without ours, especially with 3 kids. Fortunately we have a large car so transporting it isn't an issue.

I do have a 145 - it used to sit in one of the lockers of my Cardinal Clubman and be moved into the doorway at night! It also sometimes goes away with me in the pop-up tent and sits in the corner.

It wouldn't be ideal for a family using it all the time as the tank is quite small, but for night-time use it's not bad. Personally I find Porta Pottis more pleasant than the non-flush variety!

The idea of a chemical loo inside your tent makes me shudder - I would sooner take the walk to the toilet block at 2 in the morning !!

Am I missing something here - have these devices been boosted by technology recently - or are we still talking about basically a bucket in which your waste is biodegraded by chemicals - (and the associated smells / emptying ect ect)

Sorry if this post is a bit dis-tasteful - just want to know why so many folks use these

we use ours for night time wees only. We have 2 children and the thought of trugging our 4 yr old down to toilet at 2 in morning is not my idea of fun, so some kind of toilet is a must for us.

In my case I'm often camping at sites without facilities (or where the facilities are not open 24 hours - i.e. pubs) so I've got little choice.

For that reason I've now got a Pennine Pathfinder with cassette loo, but I also still use a smallish tent occasionally.

You're always going to have to empty it of course, but at least with the Porta Potti type you can largely seal off the waste when it's in the tent, so the smell is minimal. Choice of chemicals also helps - personally I prefer the Thetford Blue as it smells less than Elsan Blue.

If you really don't want the loo in the tent you can always get a toilet tent of course.
