We have a Kampa aqua fridge/freezer 26 litre. It's more expensive than a thermo-electric coolbox but cheaper than a 3 way fridge and cools to 45degrees below ambient and even freezes. We're delighted with ours. Worth every penny. Also brilliant customer service from Kampa when my husband broke the power lead - they posted one out to France for us!
Hope you don't mind me asking mully, but how much did it cost you and what model is it? This sounds a little like the type of box that me and my hubby have been thinking of getting. Is it noisy on a night? Kampa sounds like they have a fantastic customer service!! I won't mention to the hubby that you've been camping in France, as this is one place he'd like to take us maybe next year!! He'll be on here asking you where, when and how much!!
many thanks for all your comments and experiences guys!
------------- love shopping, love a bargain even more!
We have an Aldi one with both plugs. It's very good and keeps everything chilled for days if you put the ice packs in as well. It's also a good idea to put meat etc in when frozen.
------------- What light? I'm still looking for the tunnel.
You also need a high performance adaptor to plug it into the mains at £25.
We had it switched on 24/7 and although when you initially turn it on you hear a slight whirr from the fan you don't hear it at all soon after as you just get used to it.
It cools using water which you add to a tank so it works completely differently from anything else on the market. It was also an ideal size for us as it's not as big as the 3 way fridges and yet you can fit loads of stuff in it, including a bottle of wine!
You should try France. You'd love it, especially if you go to the Dordogne or further south as you have great weather! What more do you need? Great weather, good food, good wine and some beautiful scenery!
Just to update you....been out today and bought the campingaz powerbox 36L classic today. Only thing is, when i got it home, it doesn't come with the dam plug!! (only supplied the car adaptor) In the famous high street catalogue, it is pictured with the plug, so i thought i was doing right, buying it all together! Huh! Now i have to source the dam adaptor plug now! Oh well, something will go ight for me this year!!!!
Thanks for all your useful help though guys xx

I bought mine in 2002, and it is still going strong with no issues.

We used to struggle but then we got a combicool and have never looked backed. We did intend to just use it on longer trips but now take it with us even if just going for the weekend. It's not that much bigger than a coolbox although is heavier (especially when loaded with beer!). We put it on the back seat between the kids when travelling.
