Possibly an inline fuse between the charger and the battery, It could be well hidden, Mine was almost tucked under the battery tray, Only a few mm of wire visible.

Old charger may still be working fine.

Disconnect the battery and check for a voltage at the battery connectors with the charger running.

You didnt cross the terminals did you? My sister managed to fit her battery backwards & crossed the wires.

Some things worked but she did something & everything went off. I forget what she did now.. Maybe it was just the battery meter?

Any battery will work. Lots of people still use car batteries without any issues.

I have inthe past, They might not last as long running all the lights but you learn to switch things off or give it a boost off the car to top it up.

As long as its giving over 12 volts, Fully charged is 12.8 or more.
