Hello everyone!

I'm trying to find the lightest chairs possible as we camp without a car and even though I doubt I can carry much more I am desperate for something to sit on! I have looked at the foldable foam based chairs, low beach chairs and inflatable chairs and I just wondered which of these would be best or is there anything else out there I have yet to discover?

Any help would be fantastic, Thankyou.

Hi Kerry & welcome to the forum 17

I would have thought that the inflatable chairs would be the lightest weight, but then you've got to take a pump to blow them up, unless you've got a lot of puff. I've got a  Wynnster low chair which is very lightweight, it is low like a beach chair & doesn't have arms, but it is actually comfortable.

I would say either one of those Thermarest chairs, but you'll be low unless you can sit it on something, or a 3 legged stool. They're an inherently strong design, and so they can be made very lightweight.

Lafuma CBCX low chairs are good; they are well made, lightweight and fold down small, also have a shoulder strap to make carrying easier. We have a couple for the beach, so can recommend them from personal experience.

Thanks guys, I must admit I like the idea of the low chairs but I need to find out how much different ones weigh before I decide. My daughter is wittling me for inflatable chairs but I have to blow up our airbeds and I don't know if I can face doing two chairs as well!

Do you need them to be small as well as light?  We have some Outwell Yukon stools (basically http://www.caseysoutdoorleisure.co.uk/outwell-baffin-stool-table-mocca-388-p.asp without the lid) that have an aluminium frame, they are feather light. Not sure whether they are the remains of last year's stock, but if you look for aluminium frame you should get something lightweight.

They look great, thanks, but I need a backrest. I didn't explain that before but thats the main reason I want some chairs, so I can just sit back and relax...

I bought a 3-legged "walkstool" which is amazingly comfortable but expensive. It is lighweight, extendable and in various heights, comes in a bag to go over shoulder, can be attached to belt and easily fits into rucsac.

It would be worth researching the weight of inflatable chairs - you may well find them to be heavier than you expect. Similarly airbeds.

We recently did a camping trip 'by air' to the Channel Islands, and wanted our comforts for 5 days, but knew we had a baggage weight allowance and had to carry our luggage when we got there. I was weighing everything!! We bought some cheap Sunncamp self-inflating mats off Amazon (we paid £8 for them a few weeks back, although I believe they are now £11 P&P inc). They weighed in at just over 1kg, and packed down to the size of a compact sleeping bag. They were surprisingly comfortable, and it saved us the hassle and space of carrying a,pump and blowing them up.

We recently bought some really light beach chairs - actually very comfy if you dont mind being low. We bought them after seeing them here http://www.campingcorner.co.uk/Gear/Beds.aspx

Very pleased with them. Cost £13
