Just to update. Hob came eventually. (Took a while)
Works well but not huge. Ideal for one person or a family of 4 but my extra large pans are a bit big. They are fine to put on it but as the area that heats is only about the size of a saucer it will obviously take longer.

But for £20 it does the job and will certainly be ideal to do the basics.
