Debating what to take for the kids to sleep on when we go camping. When we went a few years ago, we took a ready bed (kiddie my first sort) for ds, but we don't have any now so not sure what to get for them.
Was debating normal self inflating mats, either cheapie or such as airics. Or possibly is it the outwell junior beds, (in dinosaurs and flowers?)... or could go back to kiddie ready beds! Any advice please!
Hi lunavix. My boys are 4 & 3. We normally use ready beds for them ( we have always camped in very good weather) this year however we are going on longer camping trips and pre-booked so do not have any idea of the weather. I considered taking the beds again..but sometimes they roll out of them..so this year we are taking a double airbed for them and putting them in a sleeping bag each. The airbed will fill their sleeping pod.And they will be cosy and toasty, we have tried this at home already and they loved it..and were definatly more comfy than in the ready beds!! Hope this has maybe helped you...given you an idea maybe?

They're 3 and 5
Don't go for the outwell airbeds whatever you do, I made that mistake, they are shiny like lilo's! Don't know what the mats are like, my kids are same age and I think I am going to go with the low campbeds £12.99 from Argos or £7.99 from The Grange, at least with the campbeds I can put stuff under them!

Hiya
My three have self inflating mats. When they were small we tried airbeds but they just fell off them and wedged inbetween the airbed and the side of the tent.
They haven't complained (yet) lol!

I think i have changed my mind about the double airbed!! Im going to take from Sprockets experience and advice and buy mats!
Another fan of the mats ... kids can't fall off them, get wedged between them ... or puncture them by mistaking them for their own personal in-tent trampoline!! Also a lot warmer underneath.
I should think the cheapie self inflating ones like aldi /lidls wil be comfortable enough for kids.
I have some excercise mats we now use for the kids instead of airbeds , we got them from a charity shop and thought we'd give them a try . they are not even an inch thick but they are very warm and comfortable on them .
Or the cellfoam ones ,about 1cm thick, they are also very warm to touch, and thats all they use for duke of edinburgh awards I think .
My kids use basic self inflating mats that cost me about £15 a few years back. I can't recall the obscure brand name, but I did buy a very similar looking plain Outwell one for my nephew last year. They roll up good and tight into their own carry bag.
Yup, ours (4 and 8) just sleep on self inflating mats (Sunncamp branded generic ones, cost about £15 a couple of years ago. Used a ready bed for the older one for a couple of years and didn't like it.
Though TBh they would probably be happy on a closed cell foam mat - IIRC DD1 used one for a year. I'd rather buy stuff that I know they will be adle to kep on using as they get older , rather than something I'll need to change. And me and the girls having the same mats saves on arguments
