Either take valubles with you or lock them in the car

Please dont get an alarm. Someone previously though that might be a good idea

Imagine if it went off while you were out

Or started blaring at 4am

if people want to get into your tent they will but it is not often that we hear of things going missing from a tent

We have never had anything taken and DS has even left his Nintendo on the table outside the tent (teenagers lol) so try not to worry and trust your fellow campers, We are not a bad bunch :)

I have only ever once had somebody go into my tent.    I had gone out for the day, leaving the tent unzipped.    The chap in the caravan oposite spotted that the tent was open, and my car missing.    Called on the chap in the caravan next to me, and together they checked that there was nobody inside that shouldn't be, before zipping up my tent.    Came over to tell me what they had done.    Very grateful for their kindness.    Hadn't been camping long, and it was my first time on my own with two young kids.     I'd got the kids in the car, when one of them wanted something so I'd nipped back to the tent - must have forgotten to zip it up again.

As others have said, valuables such as cameras and portable DVD live in the car.     The rest we just leave out.

I pitched next to a family in a caravan one...they had a huge awning and lots of kids so there was always stuff strewn around. They would go out for the day and leave the front panel half open and tons of things like radios and GameBoys on the table in full view. They never closed their windows either. It made me feel quite ill and I always felt I should be watching their tent when I was out....which obviously I did, but I felt resentful and worse I felt guilty when I went out for the day! I did mention it to the mum but she blithely told me they'd never had anything taken while camping so they didn't feel it was a worry. Mind you their unit was in such a mess even by my very low standards that perhaps a potential thief would have got lost in the chaos.

There's a happy medium......
