Queeny, I have just bought a Trangia (aluminium) and I am delighted with it. Extremely versatile bit of kit. I have though bought a gas conversion kit (just clips in where you put the meths burner) about £40 but worth every penny. Boils a litre of water in the kettle in under 3 mins and boils the large pan of water in just over 5 mins. You use one of the small gas canisters with the self sealing connection. About a fiver for the gas lasted all over the Bank Holiday Weekend! Gets extremely hot and I'm sure you could cook a lovely crispy fried egg on it. I might just have to go home and try!

I have used (and abused) Trangia's for years, one of the unsung heroes of camping!
Unfortunatey I go trid of my camping gear when we bought a van (Mrs insists she doesn't do camping). She has realised now that things have changed and I am now getting my camping gear again. I have seen identical cheaper models of Trangia, anyone used these cheaper versions (Oh and can't remember where I saw them so if youcould remind me!!)
No, you need the real thing...a Trangia! It will go the distance where as the cheaper ones might break at the hinges or something...you can depend on the T. Seeing as you are in The Toon, Sprouty...it was in the Grainger Market that I bought mine, lol, go and see if the camping shop is still there!
