Hello everyone,  we (my husband and I and our three boys) are about to embark on our first camping trip at the end of June.

Would you recommend single or double sleeping bags?  We both like to be warm...!

Also I went camping with my eldest son at the end of May (with my sis and her husband to try it out) and the temperature dropped really really low - we were so cold.  My son was crying that he wanted to go home - I dont want to be in that situation again with three kids!

Any recommendations/advice greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

I think it really comes down to personal choice.  We have doubles but that is best for me and the OH.

Some people find a double too restriciting, and will use duvets others will prefer the warmth from individual mummy bags (however these too can be very restricting for your feet, some people will prefer an individual square bag.  It also depends on how much each of you feels the cold etc.  If the hubbys a gas fire and you're a fridge (if you get my meaning) then individual bags of different warmth ratings may suit you better.

Have you thought about going down to your local camping supplier who will usually have all types of bags hanging up.

I know you may all feel a bit ridiculous getting in out the different types of bags but that is what they are there for and I'd rather get a feel for what type of bag suits me best than waste money on something and find out that it is not the type for me.

Once you have a feel for what shape (double/single/mummy/square) is going to suit you best you can then look at warmth ratings etc and take advice re what season bag would suit your camping.

Katie

Singles are warmer , but you can get 2 singles and zip them together.

I have these kingsize bags because I feel too restricted in a mummy style bag. these ones are extra long and extra wide single bags, they are extremely warm , and you can zip 2 together to make a double. When its really warm , we use one below us and one over us like duvets , so we find them ideal.

Hiya, make sure you insulate under bed, we use cheap foam mats then have air bed then a furry throw then sleeping bag then another furry throw, daughter has all this except we put her duvet on top not a throw, we were nice and warm at the very beginning of april

Happy Camping

We have separate bags - my eldest does get cold, and fortunately my parents had a 4 season adult bag kicking around so he sleeps in that (he's only 6)...but basically if he gets cold pop him to bed in loads of clothes (ours sleep on self inflating matts - inexpensive gelert ones - though they tend to roll of them! :)) and our friends give their kids hot water bottles - how luxurious is that.  I do sympathise as I remember one night where we were just piling jumpers and tracksuits on our eldest as he woke up shivering - always good to have blankets too.
