Hi all. Advice needed please. I'm going to buy a single high bed for tent camping but some need electrics and colman raised large (single) is massive but can be inflated with pump. Is my best option to buy an inverter - I can also use it to charge my mobility scooter, etc?
Enjoying using forums. Not used anything like it before.
Why not use an US army cot instead? These are about 15-18" off the ground and offer a very comfy nights sleep (military surplus in aintree). As for charging your scooter be careful. We have found on some sites the charger on my wifes powerchair draws so much current that if we use it with the coolbox also on the ehu trips.... Now always go for sites with 10amp EHU where possible.
Thanks for info. Have looked at campbeds but not US. Was thinking of fully charging scooter battery before leaving home then using in-car inverter to keep charged up, not using pitch electrics.
Argos sell the us army type cot/campbed only down side we found is its quite hard to get the end pole in across the bottom but once the canvas gives a bit its fine
The true army ones have a hole in the end for the mossie nets, what you do is slip something into here and you can then turn / lever the end over easier..... It just rotates into place....
try intex single airbed double height approx £35 but best nights sleep ever we now have a king size and a single for junior goes up in about 2 mins and stays up all week if you only buy one bed get this one.
Thanks Jane. Looked at Intex website. Very interested as I don't really feel good on camp beds. Not using EHU so would I need to buy inverter for car 12v plug and convert to usual 3 pin plug to inflate it? Could then recharge my camera, iPod and DS. Liked coleman standard air bed and used rechargeable inflater but their double height single is too long/wide.
Hi,
We have a king size intex and thoroughly recommend it. On our next trip we will be without EHU.
We have simply got a pump that runs on 12v. The bed itself has a plug? that allows you to inflate it this way so you won't need to buy an inverter just a 12v pump.
I have a camping gaz rechargeable pump that can be used in 3 pin socket or in car or on own. Presume this is what you mean? Life was once so simple - throw down self-inflatable bed roll and dive in!
Hi,
if you go for intex beds u can buy a 12v pump from aldi that will inflate them in on time (£5), this instead of using built in 240v pump. Aerobeds may be the same but don't have experience of them. If you've got any kind of back prob's double height beds make a big difference
I emailed Aerobeds and informed need normal electric 3 pin plug/socket to inflate them. Have arthritic knees, and a knee replacement so limitations hence need for raised bed.
i have intex double height king size and it inflates from lighter socket in car , takes about 4 mins, and stays up all week. highly recommend this bed. bought a single campinggaz one for my son and it was so narrow he fell off several times. oops.
