Going away for a few nights, non driver but friends are taking stuff in their car (so i don't want anything too big so they feel guilty! hehe)

Two adults, two children (small not teenagers!) and for cooked breakfasts, maybe another small meal, not sure about dinners as we were debating bbqing each night.

I'd prefer gas over unleaded, I'm debating the campingaz chef one which on yeomans comes with the free cookset, however it's very large and needs large gas cannisters which worries me slightly (panicky single mum!)

So was then debating two suitcase ones (I know small cannisters can be a false economy esp if running two burners but I'd be happier smaller iyswim) but not sure on safety.

Now thinking about a bbq... seen the fold up ones, and also seen a cadac which looks cool (can you get it any where cheap??!!)

Don't know what to do!!!

I've got a Cadac SafariChef (actually also an EaziChef). They're very good, and ver flexible, whilst packing into quite a neat package. They can be used as a BBQ, griddle or as a cooker, as they have a pan holder.

This version...

http://www.camperlands.co.uk/store/erol.html#11214X18363

avoids the need for a large gas bottle, as it will run off the standard screw-on cartridges or the small Camping Gaz piercable ones.

My heart is set on one of these

http://www.coleman.eu/ES/p-23555-foldn-go8482-perfectflow174-2-burner-stove.aspx

notebook barbecue is good but remember to use foil under the coals cos they ain't easy to clean the food fat off on site and may start to smell a bit etc

Do you mean the cheapy butane bottles?  How long will a 1kg last on it though? Do you need anything else for it?

What about one of the fold up one ring cookers that use gas cannisters?  You could then buy a portable BBQ when at your campsite and use both without too much lugging about.

The LPG version runs off a butane, propane or patio gas bottle via a regulator and pipe. The HP runs off a 500g screw-in cartridge which means that the unit is a lot more compact.

Hope that helps.

Get one of each to cover all eventualities!

Got a Weber Go Anywhere for evening BBQs.

A Cadac Safari Chef HP and used the flat grill pan for cooking a full English every morning for 5 days, used the wok to stir fried vegetable and the flat grill pan to cook some salmon. I tested this kit by boiling water and tried the BBQ, and found the BBQ not hot enough for my liking and the food took ages to cook. Still on the same 450g can of Butane/Propane gas.

Also got a Outwell stainless steel cook set that uses methylated spirit to boil rice and made a sauce. I tried cooking a full English using this kit, and the frying pan was not big enough (it buckled in the middle when heated too) to keep all the food and fry an egg, so I made scrambled egg using one of the bowls instead. The Cadac is my choice for cooking breakfast.

I may be able to drop the Outwell set, however, since it packs down very neatly and does not take up much space, I am going to take it with me all the time, just in case I make friends while camping and decide to have a party.

Whereabouts do you live, I for one have a couple of the single burner types that I would be willing to lend for a week.

I agree the Cadac makes a great breakfast using the smooth side of the grill. I bought egg rings to do nice fried eggs.

The griddle is great for BBQ stuff.

Have just bought the skottel - so looking forward to attempting a stir fry or curry - yum yum !

I got a silicone egg ring especially for the Cadac to avoid scratching the grill plate! Just need to remember to level the Cadac first! 17
