We use a Dometic 3 way freezer running on gas, and it's fantastic for longer stays on non ehu sites ... turned down to just below half power it works at around 0 degrees, enough to keep already frozen stuff frozen and keep cold stuff cold without actually freezing it. At full power it (apparently) runs to -12 degrees ... so 2 star freezer. It's great to have cold cold drinks, and ice if you need it.
I have also seen someone using a small ice maker to produce ice cubes running off the car with an inverter to replenish ice in cold box to keep the food cold. Not sure how they got on as it seemed a lot of trouble to leave the car running for a couple of hours running around with ice and water.
i wonder if anyone can come up with a suggestion to my problem? :
I am staying in a conference center in a school (no mini bar!) for 3 days before going straight to a festival. This means that I have to pack my car up with everything before the course.
Normally I would freeze plastic bottles of water, wine and cartons of juice to fill my freezer bag. Obviously I cnat do that this time.
I need to buy a new freezer bag, as zip went on the other one. Can anyone recommend one that stays colder for longer. Is the Thermos one any good?

or should I just get one from tescos?
Also I wont have be able to freeze packs, so I had thought about buying a couple of bags of ice on the way, and transferring these to small plastic boxes in an attempt to cool things down. Do you think this will work?
I shall probably drink Gin & Tonic (with lots of ice) when I get camped up (ha ha)
Is it the igloos that you use ice in anyway? We use them for scouts and put the food in containers floating on/in ice water. Keep for a week no problems... (just top up the ice!).
I have brought a non leak thermos cool bag- and each day I buy a large bag of ice from the super market- keeps stuff cold for quite a long time- plus the cubes are good in the odd drink or two

Thanks for any suggestions.
Try lining the cool bag with an extra layer - buy one of those cheap insultated carrier bags from tesco's etc and put inside the coolbag. Every little helps !!!!
------------- Why yearn for tomorrow when you can have chocolate today.
Try freezing your beer/lager/cider, cans of course- giant ice cubes!!- Ive only had one split on me, that was in the freezer, and it didnt make a mess.
