No this is normal,I used to leave mine on 24hrs in the summer but only if help was easily available to start the next morning.
When I used to leave it on on the Hull-Europort crossing I would be on board the ferry about 13hrs and this killed the battery.
Just get an adaptor so you can pull the coolbox out and plug it into the mains.

Hi there

I've just bought one of these second hand. Can anyone tell me - when you get it, it has a power cable that attaches to the mains. Do you ned anything else to get it to work abroad?  Lots of the sites have EHU - with varying ampage - can I plug this into a site which states it has 6A power? Do I need any other cables apart from that which comes standard with the fridge?

Also, if I am running it off gas - how long will a normal size gas can last?  You know, the ones around 20-30cms high and around 20cm in diameter? How many days will it last?

Thanks so much for your advice in anticipation!

Well, you'll need an Electric Hook Up unit (EHU), with RCD protection and a blue connector plug on the end so you can plug it into the hook-up box. Your standard 3-pin plug will go into one of three shielded sockets at the other end. This will cost you about £50 and is all you'll need in the UK.

Abroad, most sites nowadays use the blue euro-connectors but some still have the continental 2-pin boxes so you'll need an adapter lead here.

And some sites have reversed polarity (the EHU will have a warning light to show this) so you need a polarity reversal adaptor too, which you'll probably have to make up yourself. If you use the search function above for "reversed polarity" you'll find much information on this.
