Hi - what does anyone recommend for a comfy nights sleep for a couple of adults int a tent. We dont have much luck with airbeds - punctures or faulty valves see to be common
I have tried various methods but prefer my airbed. The camp beds were too small and hard for me and I couldn't snuggle.
We've do have to put a bit of extra air in every couple of nights but have just bought new ones (Coleman I think) and these are not supposed to leak.
We always make sure there are o stones etc under the bedroom area and then put down travel picnic rug things with plastic backing and then on top of the airbed use fleecy matress covers, this negates anything sharp coming into contact with the beds.
Have tried both camp beds and air beds and air beds are better even if they sometimes need to be reinflated. Camp beds took up too much room and we have an 8 man tent. Needed to use 3 pods for sleeping instead of 2 when using air beds. We only used them for 2 weeks and because the ground was soft the frames bent on 2 so we took those to the tip but kept the canvas. Also camp beds take up too much valuable boot or roof box space !
Have tried SI matresses, Outwell and Aldi ones and found them just too uncomfy for some one with a 'traditionally built' English figure. (Aldi ones were very poor quality btw). Campbeds were an improvement but too firm and if you get one with a good size sleeping area it's enormous (even tried SI mat on top of campbed). Best nights sleep we've had has been on the airbed - we just reinflate every couple of nights
I've recently gone back to a folding camp bed when I use my larger tents. I use mine with a medium thickness self inflating mattress on top. If I am using a smaller tent, then I use one of the old fashioned canvas/rubber air beds, again with my self inflating on top. Another advantage of a camp bed, is that you can store loads of stuff under it, so creating extra space in the tent. (assuming it's not one of the low slung versions)
------------- Canvas tent, paraffin light, petrol stove. Heaven
I'd rather be kayaking.
Spent up, not pent up, just had my new tent up.
