Hey ya,
We were camping a couple of weekends ago and took our new Carabike stand to keep our bikes in while we were on site (we have 2 teenage children so 5 bikes as you can imagine can be quite messy strewn across the pitch).

Well it was brilliant, so much so that I thought I would post about it here as I think they're fairly new but so useful. A friend recommended me to a company local to me that make them and we bought them direct.

They're designed more for transporting the bikes in caravans but worked well for us tenters, we bought two and kept the 4 bikes in them the whole time they weren't being ridden. It meant no more tripping over the bikes at night time too which was a godsend.

If you haven't seen them and you have bikes then do have a look at them as we wouldn't be without ours now www.carabike.com simple but so handy!

I think we've got a good year ahead for camping, I can't wait until our next expedition in a couple of weeks time!

: )

They look really interesting. We were about to buy roof bars and cycle carriers for our holiday next month. I'll get hubby to look at these as a cheaper alternative.

Thanks for the link!

Yes Carabike their website is www.carabike.com the info is all on there. They are a solid steel frame and are really sturdy - even coped with teenagers messing about with them and not being too gentle with putting the bikes on them either.

They're free standing so you literally pop them on the floor and push the bike wheel into them and voila the bikes stand upright. We're actually using them in garage now too to store the bikes tidily.

The sides aren't adjustable I think because they were designed to fit in even small caravans? You wouldn't need to adjust them though for one or two bikes.

There's some piccies on the website of them in use, I'll get a photo of ours next time we're camping and post it on here to show you.

but then i think it would be too big to carry in a caravan!! but works at home, or around the tent!

Hi, we have one of these bike stands for our caravan.  They are ever so easy to use, put your stand in the caravan, put the bikes in the stand, secure with bungee straps and hey presto.  When you arrive at your destination, remove straps, remove bikes, remove stand from caravan, then use stand for bike rack during stay.  Our friends also have one and they use theirs to store their bikes in their awning at night, but we leave ours out at night, just padlock them to the stand.  When leaving the site follow steps 1,2 & 3.  One of the best things we have brought for the van (after the flat screen TV with built in DVD and freeview, of course)

Look ok if you have an empty caravan ours is full of tables and awning.

I would think it would be difficult to get 2 adult bike in some caravans without causing some damage to the woodwork.

I would also want to lock my bikes to something more substantial to combat theft.

Both of them look good!  I could really use them at home too.  Really like the one that you can put in your caravan...

Thanks for sharing...

We are thinking of getting 2 as we can easily fit 2 pairs of bikes in the caravan. Yours is a 6 berth too isn't it Niall? You should be able to fit 2 of these bike carriers in I'm sure. I would guess that carrying 6 bikes whilst towing a caravan would be very tricky which ever method you chose to use as you could only put 4 at a maximum on the car roof. The problem we have with carrying them in the caravan is the issue of payload. We would have to carry the awning in the car to offset the weight.

i will just take the kids bikes, haven't got an awning yet not that posh or rich ;) so weight shouldn't be an issue i hope.

Hey ya,
I haven't got a caravan but my friend could fit 4 bikes in theirs at a push with these stands - one behind the other. When we take our bikes camping we have 5 adult ones and have to take a trailer to fit them all in, needless to say that only works when we're camping near to home!

We use our stand to stand them upright once we're pitched, as one time when we camped with a load of friends we had over 15 bikes strewn across the pitch, the bike stand has made the pitch much tidier.
