Can any Renault owner help? Just bought a grand Scenic and it has 2 sunroofs, do I need to buy renault roof bars as all the other manufacturers say theirs will only fit cars without sunroof? I have heard the Renault ones are very wide and I will need a Renault roof box? I currently have an Altera Roof box so don't really want to buy another?
I would have thought that you need Renault roof bars but then any roof box should attach to those bars. Try asking www.roofbox.co.uk , they're the experts.

It is worth calling up your local Renault with the dimensions of the box and asking them if it will fit. You could also ask if they had a set you could try with your box.
I think we paid about £100 for the bars and we had to call around to different Renault dealers to see who had them in stock.
I had genuine renault roofbars and used a Karrite box . The bars are expensive but you can usually pick some up on ebay. The only hassle i had was that the roof bars are the aero type and the standard box brackets would not fit so I had to make some up.
Once the box was fitted to the rack we used to just lift the whole thing on and off box and bars together as there is only a single bolt that holds each corner to the car.
Liz, I have a Renault Scenic (2005) and use the Thule 860 Rapid System Aero Bars (£55) with a 580L Halfords Roofbox (£255) & Thule Rapid System Fixpoint feet, part no. 4609 (£45.00). All these parts work great with the Scenic.
I used to own a Grand Scenic. If you have the sun roof fitted then you can only use Renault roof bars, as the Thule type would obscure the sunroof mechanism.
Did you also know that replacing a headlight bulb is a "dealer only" thing?! The joys of Renault.....

Just changed one of our headlamp bulbs, piece of cake.
As for the bars, my Grand Scenic too is the twin sunroof model and actually found (would you believe it), that the Renault genuine roof bars were cheaper than the Thule and other retrofit brands. The alternatives require vehicle specific mounting kits and these beef the initial cost up. Check up with your dealer and push for a discount, I think ours were around the £80 mark.
Thanks fort all your advice, Just got back from a weekend camping in Reeth had a good time but the weather could have better mitsty most of the time.
I called the roofbox company as they sold me the roof box. they said I need Renault bars and you're right they are cheaper. Will go with those and adapt the roof box mounting if necessary.
I was surprised at them being cheaper as they're manufacturers own. In the few boxes I've had (all of which fitted the Scenic), there were choices of mounting positions to suit your bars, but providing your box fits length ways there's no problem usually with drilling a set of mounts to suit. The box will usually have an area at the front and back where any mounting must be made, so drill within these sections.
I had the same problem with my 07 scenic with panoramic roof. I got Renault to fit the roof bars and got my roof box from Halfords. All the roofbox websites say you cant fit them to vehicles with sunroof. Also checked with renault and we are allowed 80kg on top of vehicle (including roofbox).
Thanks
Scott
