Has anybody any views on this soft roof rack system? We don't have the space to keep a roof box and the racks all the time and would really only use it a few times a year for camping.  It seems like this would fit the bill as it could all pack away very easily when we don't need it.

Dear Lynne

Apologies for the very late reply to your post!  I have been an avid viewer of UK Campsite for many months, but have only just plucked up the courage to "join properly"!!

My husband and I purchased an x rack for our camping travels this summer with our 2 year old son and our Peugeot 206.  We, like you, don't have the space to store a roof box.  We also didn't want to make a large financial outlay, and hoped the x rack would solve our problems.

We can thoroughly recommend the x rack.  It securely carried our Yukon 600 tent and our son's buggy on our 2,500 mile journey around Europe, freeing up some very valuable boot/back seat space.  We are already planning our next overseas trip, and our trusty x rack will definitely be accompanying us!

My only negative comment would be to say that at speed we noticed one of the straps (normally on the driver's side for some strange reason!) would vibrate which produced an annoying noise.  We found this was quickly and easily solved by putting a small piece of cloth under the strap by the foam spacer.

I do hope this information helps someone!

Kind regards.

h i lloked at these but decided to go for the handirack instead which has its own bespoke holdal system. as will only be using it for all the soft gear when we go camping. Wouldn't want to put tent on top of car as think its too heavy.

Hi Lynne,

we bought an x-rack earlier this year for the same reasons as you, it's fantastic, we keep ours in the boot when not in use and it comes in really handy sometimes, we had the same problem as kpr1 with the annoying noise, but we found just putting the lil foam things on worked for us, i think it's well worth the money that they are asking for them, i actually called the company before i bought it and the man i spoke to was more than helpful with all my questions.

I have been looking into the x rack too , how do you secure stuff to it and what do you use to cover it with ?

Cheers ,  Dave.

you get luggage straps with it which we use but we also bought the bungee net, its pretty small tho so when that doesnt do the job we use bungee cords, we also bought the tarpaulin incase the weather is wet.
