We're going back to canvas after renting a mobile home for a couple of years. As I will be payng for electricity I would like advice on appliances. I will want to buy a table top fridge and mini oven with a couple of hot plate and have seen some at argos, I just wonder about the safety aspect of using these in the tent. I'm bidding on a tent with pictures in the brochure of people cooking inside and there being a kitchen section.
Does anyone use them in a tent - can any one advise?
thanks Jane
------------- Of course I don't only do it for the 5 weeks in France!
Depends what your cooking. We have a trailer tent and I cook breakfast (bacon egss etc) outside, but we have an electric mini oven we use inside. depending on the amps of the site, some are 16 some are only 10, you need to work out the total amps used when every thing is on, search on here there was a guide on how to work it out.
france, like us is 230v, and you can either plug straight into that, or use an adaptor if you run a caravan off low wattage, I know I cna plug a mini oven, kettle ect straight into their system, I was wondering about the safety and as you said, you use a mini oven in the trailer tent. I too cook any thing greasy or spitty outside on the gas bbq - we don't eat out much due to the cost and cook everything - so I need to be able to rustle up a few basic.
anyone else cook in their tent?

Just remember that for a 10amp hook up you can't go higher than 2300w at one time, which basically means the oven OR one electric ring OR the kettle. And many campsites only have 6Amp hookups, so even less options.
Cotton canvas tents usually have heat resistant cooking areas which are less flammable than just canvas, and one heck of a lot less flammable than any synthetic tent. I cook inside my TT because it has a sturdy cooker unit plus heat resistant area, but I won't cook inside any other of my tents because of the fire risk.
thanks Val - all the tents I am looking at have a cooking area, so does that mean I have to un plug the fridge when I want to cook? I have a gas cooker for the kettle and other cooking but really miss an oven and as I go for a month - i can't afford to eat out more than once a week - so i like to feed us all at a reasonable price
thanks

I often cook inside our Cabanon Tent which also has a kitchen area with a ventilated window above it's one of the best things about camping, eating outdoors.Along with the gas cooker i have a mini oven which i bake ready to cook bread rolls in which i buy in Aldi, a slow cooker plus a electric kettle. I take some disposable BBQs with a high stand i bought from B&Q for cooking meat or fish outside of the tent. I would never cook in my other tents which are not canvas.

Sorry...I should have clarified that the rule of thumb on campsite is one heating appliance at a time ie ring or kettle or oven or heater or microwave or....etc. The low draw stuff like phone chargers, a modest light or the fridge usually don't amount to much so you can leave these on with your one heating appliance.
