Hi, we bought a Cadac Barbecue a couple of weeks ago, and tried it a couple of times this weekend, not really successfully. It lit easily enough, but it didn't seem to give out a whole load of heat! The flame is quite yellow, and it took a long time to cook food - which worried me quite a bit! We have a gas barbecue at home which gives out a lot more heat! The fuel was initially a 901 bottle, and then a 907 bottle - which was a little bit better! It's brand new so I don't see how we can have anything blocked. I wonder if it would be better to run it on Propane rather than butane?

Thanks

Iain

We run our Cadac off camping gaz, with no problems - does take about 5 minutes to warm up though. Have you got a lid for the Cadac? We find this helps retain the heat vey well.

Presumably it's a full sized Cadac you've got rather than the smaller Safari model?

If it is it sounds like their is something wrong, we run ours on both camping gaz and calor and it gives out vast amounts of heat.

I don't know enough about gas to know what might be wrong but do you have the correct regulator?

The model is a Cadac Easy Chef. I didn't get the one with all of the bits, so it has a fat pan, a heat deflector, a grill, and a solid griddle. It has a Camping Gaz Butane regulator, which I think only fits the 901, 904 and 907 bottles. It has a tripod base with a connection for the gas in the centre, and all I have been doing is to plonk the blue pan on the top of the central chrome pipe on the tripod base, stick in the fat pan, the deflector and the wire grill. I don't think there's much to go wrong, but there doesn't seem to be much gas pressure.

When you look upwards into the base, do you generally see a yellowly flame, or should it just be a blue flame - like a normal gas stove?

Silly question, for which I apologize in advance and mean no offence, but you have opened the bottle tap fully and adjusted the one on the legs of the Cadac. I always get a blue flame on mine and have to close gas tap down on the Cadac or stuff burns.

Happy summer holidays all!

I am with you on this one.  We have the safari Chef, & I thought I was alone in saying it is dreadful.  It will not boil water!  That said, the flame should not be yellow.  That is a sign of incomplete combustion.  The flame will make lots of soot as well as potentially lethal carbon monoxide.  It should burn with a clean blue flame like any other gas stove.  It sounds like the burner may have god dirt in it

Steve.

Hello - I cooked for about an hour last night, the gas tap on the regulator fully unscrewed and the regulator on the base of the tripod fully open. Flame was blue at the base, and yellow at the tips. Nowhere near as much pressure as, for instance, the camping gaz stove.

Sounds as if you have had the same problem as us with the Easy Chef. We also had yellow flames and no heat on our second use of it. Also food had sooty particles over it.

OH being a bit handy at fixing things took it apart and it had a plastic blue baffle in the base of the central stem and it had melted! He thinks it is a design fault and maybe because it was a bit windy it had blow back which melted the baffle.

We were really disappointed as we have friends who have had theirs for years and swear by it - also the reviews on here. We took it back to Towsure and we exchanged it for the Carri Chef - we prefer this model as its got a self ignition button it has also a numbered gas control - so far so good and we have used it a lot since.

Hope this helps
