Hi Tent Guru's 

We have just bought a new tent and it recommends we should make sure that we use a 'cross pegging' technique for the doorways-all the instructions say is the points should be pulled across each other......  

Does anyone know what this means as we have done a few searches and still a bit unsure what we need to do and don't want to ruin our brand new tent

In this case it is to stop any strain being put on the base of the zip. Peg the loop on the tent part as far past where the zip goes as possible, and the door zip as far towards the tent side as possible so they cross over - do the door loop second as it is easier to undo it if you need to unzip the door.

Another form of cross pegging is for guy ropes to increase the strength of the pegging in windy weather. Instead of pegging at 45 degrees in line with the rope, put the peg slightly sideways on and hammer in. Then insert another peg through the same loop, and into the same hole in the ground surface but turn sideways in the other direction before hammering in. It is incredibly difficult to remove both pegs at the same time (as a guy rope might try to do) as the base of the pegs are spread far apart underground.
