An answer for youlbury. Lanterns are a great idea but, I have got 12 guy lines so, it might become quite pricey. The little glow in the dark plastic stars are really cheap. 50 to a packet for under £2.00 free post on eBay. At that rate, I could tie 2 or 3 at the base of each guy. If they work on my next camping trip in September, I promise that I will give you some feedback.
With love, from Singingbird3.
You can pick up the small slimline lanterns for say £1 per lantern we tend to use 10 - 4 front and back and 2 on the sides they are fairly bright and will give a guide of where the guys are.
It would be interesting to see if the stars work.

Hubby got some replacement ropes that were both glow in the dark and had a reflective strip weaved into it. But fingers crossed, in all the years, nobody has ever tripped over our ropes!

You may find that my idea of velcroing glow in the dark plastic stars to the guys rather helpful as, you will be able to hammer your pegs level to the ground and then tie the glow in the dark stars to what ever level suits you on your guys. Although, your name, `Force ten`, would indicate that you are a male? and may feel silly in a star spangled tent.
you are correct in your assumption that i am a male so dont really go for fairy lights or other fancy tent embellishments, but your idea of luminous stars on the guy lines would work for some and is a really good idea
if i was worried about people tripping over my guy lines i may opt for a small soar light where the guy goes into the ground
my user name is from the first tent i ever used in the 70,s as a scout and we were still using the same tent when we were doing DOE awards in the early 80,s, A Three man bright orange Vango Force Ten

Other option to keep people from tripping over your guy lines is to barricade yourself with a wall of wind breaks around your tent! Some people like it like that!
Alternatively an electric or barbed wire fence!
