I,m thinking of buying one of those fridges that you shove into your 12v plug in the car.

What i need to know is can you leave them plugged in all night without your battery going kaputt OR if they have a shut-off device- how long will it keep cool.

Any advise will be much appreciated

yours

mick

Don`t leave it on without the car running, you will drain the battery,it will depend on whats in it as to how long it stays cold.Probably be ok overnight when the temp drops.

No. They will flatten any battery, either car (with the engine off) or leisure type in a couple of hours.  You need electric hookup & a transformer, that lot will set you back about £70 on top of the coler unless you get a mains/12V one.

Most modern cars dont power their 12v when the ignition is off for any length of time

I know its a bitter pill to swallow - but im currently looking into this - and from waht I can gather - you are much better ( space allowing ) with a 3 way cooler / fridge that allows you to use gas for when there are no EHUs -   expect to pay £170 ish - but thats got to be better than faffing ablut with batteries ( £70 ) and transformers - not to mention the odd flat car battery - ect

We've just bitten the bullet and bought a Combicool RC1700 - £178 including postage.  Ordered yesterday and arrived this morning.  Have got it plugged in and waiting to see what happens (it gets cold I hope!!).

Our 12v cool box with transformer blew up last summer at Annecy, we think it just couldn't take the heat.  Also we found the fan very irritating especially at night and worried that it would disturb other campers, so often turned it off.

Am probably camping sometime in the next couple of weeks in the UK too, and want to go without EHU so need to try out the gas too.
