Last year Aldi did a set of pans - 3 in total, 1 was a frying pan - they came in a net bag with a handle.  Well, I was a newbie last year and used them only once.  I came back yesterday from 2 days away where I was very nearly scalded. 17   I lifted a pan of boiling water off the cooker and it tipped forward.  On closer inspection I saw that the handle has melted where it grips the lip of the pans.  I was in Aldi today and saw that they have the same ones in again.  I was considering taking the handle back and getting it replaced but is there any point?  Has this hapened to anyone else?  The pans are great, really non stick and so easy to clean so I'm a bit miffed 17- I was wondering if it's possible to buy another hanlde - maybe metal? - any ideas

Many thanks all

Same thing happened to my pans, only I stopped using them before an accident happened.  They felt lethal 17

Replaced them with the Coleman set on offer at Amazon last week.

It is a shame, I agree the non-stick was brilliant, even worked on scrambled eggs!

Might be worth sending a letter of concern to head office??

Thanks jlbf06 - I think I'll do that.  Just had a look on Amazon - did you get the red set at £14.99? - If so, I assume the handle shown is detachable and is used on the frying pan? - silly question I know, but you never can tell! 17- They look really heavy duty - have you tried them out yet?

Bought the Aldi set last year, just for the odd weekend away and only used them once, never again!!! The pans are so smooth on the bottom that they actually slide on top of the cooker, I was boiling eggs at the time!

Yes you use the detachable handle (metal) on the smaller pan and frying pan. Haven't tried them yet but they are packed ready to go this weekend :-)

Hmmmm, this is confirming that cheap isn't necessarilly best value. I've got a Biffinet kettle that I bought from Lidl last year for £9.99...it's just busted. The lid is jammed shut and the button won't pop it open. I've also got a Biffinet chip fryer, again from Lidl for £19.99. It's a great fryer, BUT after just a few days the lettering on the temperature knob started to wear off - no big deal I thought. But then the on/off switch broke leaving exposed mains contacts inside. I tried and tried to get through on the warranty claims number, and had no luck, getting passed from pillar to post speaking to someone whose command of English was marginal. The cost of calls was racking up as the claims number only operates during work hours, which meant I was having to use my mobile....for calls to Germany.

I know I could have just taken it fown to Lidl, but by the time it came to that I no longer had the receipt! It's just a pain in the butt really. We still use the chip fryer with some insulating tape stuck over where the switch once was, but could do with replacing it I guess.

Exactly the same thing happened to me with the aldi pan handle... but luckily I also have a Trangia and the metal handle from that works fine with them.. they are slippy though so you have to be careful.   Even with the metal handle our rice ended up on the floor on our last holiday.

I had a similar problem with the handle - its not suitable for leaving on the pans for any length of time - like more than 30 secs - but its very difficult to use the frying pan without having the handle attached.

I also found them very slippy - in fact the only bit of that set I'm still using is the net lol!

Just took mine back to Aldi, they were really understanding and refunded me even though I didn't have the receipt.  The store manager was going to pass the information to the area manager, which is good because these things are really dangerous.

We only used the handle whilst stirring food but it still melted, so they really aren't fit for the purpose intended, and I really was petrified that they would end up pouring hot food/water over someone.

I got a set of those but haven`t used them yet but I don`t think I will bother now I`m just going to take them straight back. With little ones about it`s not worth the risk 17

We got the red coleman set from Amazon and used it for the first time last weekend, the large saucepan is LARGE! but there are five of us so we needed it big, but straining the pasta was a pain so perhaps consider taking a colander ( I am the lid precariously balanced on top and tip into sink kind at home!) The bases were a bit slippery on our stove and we have to make sure we were on perfectly flat ground, also worth noting, the little handle thing is also great for hooking under the handles on the lids to lift them up to check how everyhthing is cooking, otherwise them little chrome handles sure do get hot!!! For the price I paid I was well chuffed, but have put pieces of kitchen roll in them now they are packed away as I am unsure just how the non-stick will hold up.
