Hiya,

when we go camping we travel by motorbike so have to pack very small.

we have a problem with finding something small to sleep on, mats were too uncomfy and the plastic airbeds we used this time were really loud and squeeky, also slippy! Can anyone advise some brilliant product to help us please.

hi, no we havent. do they fold up as small as airbeds? we did wonder if specialised camping airbeds would be better as we only used the sort that kids play with in the sea. (we are real amatures!!)

I wouldn't buy without seeing one first. My OH got a self inflating mat a while ago, from a camping shop & it seemed a bargain for only £12 or so, but it's really not much better than a normal roll mat....... that very old adage again, you get what you pay for.

I have experience of a couple of different self inflating mats, ranging from the ultra cheap £20 ones upto a £65 ultra compact thermarest.
The most compact is the Thermarest Prolite, when packed its 28cm long and 12cm across, deployed 51x183x2.5cm. I found this to better than a roll mat but not as comfy as I wanted. It was acquired due to thermarest offering a lifetime warrenty.

My prefered mat at the moment is a Robens mat sold by cccoutdoors. I have the 5cm thick model dimensions are
Inflated Size: 193 x 63 x 5 cm
Packed Size: 63 x 25 cm approx

These are very very comfy and cost £35.
If you really need something compact the prolite is the only option, but for comfort the cheaper robens is better. I did look at the 10cm thick robens mat, but it was bigger when packed and was £65.

My prolite 3 is going on ebay soon to pay for the robens one :)

Cheers
Jon

My partner and I use the standard Thermarests. We find them very good, warm and comfy and pack down to the size of a normal roll-mat. Many a happy night of Zzzzzz's spent on them.
