I want to get one. It must be rechargeable and ideally by both mains and 12v.

It needs to be cheap as my camping spends this month have really totted up!! LOL

Any CHEAP (under £20) recommendations, offers or sales????

I used to have one that cost £9.99 from Woollies, had it for years but hubby dropped it from great height and its never worked since!  Have missed it the past year or so!

Anyone able to suggest anything??

Hi,

We found these on sale at Tesco - reduced to £13.50 (http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.100-1952.aspx) - so got two. Comes with 12v car lead and mains charger cable. On charge at moment and quite bright.

Hope this helps.

I've just bought one from Blacks (£25 with 20% off currently bringing into your budget). I haven't used it yet so I can't comment on it's effectiveness, but seems ok in the house at night, not super bright, but adequate.

It has an internal battery which has a solar and a wind up charger, it also takes AAA battery's as a back-up and has a low voltage socket (but no mains adaptor).

It seemed to cover all bases.

I've just looked for a link to it and it's not listed on their web site any more so maybe it is rubbish and they've stopped stocking it??

I find gas lamps a lot better than the rechargeable kind, they give off a lot brighter light, if you want it, I think that LED lights can be a bit cold, they are lighter (weight wise), on the down side you need to be a bit more carefull you dont knock them over, and you need to buy refills, but I would consider getting one. I think I paid £12.99 for mine and refills are around four quid, I haven't had to change the gas yet and have used it for about 6 hours.

We too have just bought 2 gas lights and find they are a lot lot brighter - I personally do not like LED lamps or those lantern shaped wind up things. Got them off eBay sellers and think in total paid £13 for the two and found George Fisher in Keswick selling the gas at £1 a canister.

We have a fluorescent tube type rechargeable light as well which gives of lots of light and keeps the charge a long time - I think it was about £10 (there are loads on eBay)

I have a gas lamp! I love it too but worry about leaving the kids with it, if I pop to the loo etc. Plus I never seem to end up on a level pitch! So I am paranoid about using it in the tent often.

I have an electric lamp I used when I take EHU that lives in the living area but I was after a lantern type for in the bedroom pod as well as additional lighting for the living area.

Isnt the downside with gas lanterns that you cant use them in tents etc.. (or at least small ones) because of the CO and CO2 they give off?

So long as you have ventilation they are fine.

The ones with the remote controls - imagine a site where 3 or 4 tents have these lanterns. You plip yours off, your neighbours goes on, they plip it off and yours goes on ............
Yes, I know someone who this happened to. Wasn't till the next morning when the neighbours were talking to each other that one mentioned it to the other and they figured out what had been happening.

I know it's not what you asked about but what about one of these???

http://www.greenfingers.com/superstore/product.asp?dept_id=200447&pf_id=LS2864D&co=fr

We used ours in the day tent and was great and no batteries or winding needed.

Our version is slightly different to one pictured and I just put the solar panel on a V tent peg just outside the tent.
