Hi

Sorry to be a pain but we are new to camping so just needing a bit of advice.... We have just purchase a Camping Gaz Double Burner Stove with a Grill so obviously need to purchase some gas to go with it?

Where can I get the gas from? Do you hire or buy the bottle? Does anyone know which type of gas bottle or cannister we need? How do you get em refilled or do you just swap em for a new one?

HELP!!!!!!!!!!! Any help wpuld be greatly appreciated. x

i got a bottle off a friend then exchanged it at our local caravan shop

Think your first youll pay more for then you just exchange your empty one for a full one

Hope this kinda helps lol

If I were you, I'd get a 4.5kg Calor Gas butane cylinder:



... and the regulator.



You can go straight to a Calor Gas stockist and pay £29.99 deposit on the bottle, plus the cost for the gas (about £14).
This will get you a full cylinder. What you can do is to get an empty Calor Gas cylinder from eBay (for example), take it to the same stockist and hand them the empty cylinder, pay the cost of the gas only, and they give you a full cylinder back. You just swap cylinders - you don't keep the same one.
Saves the £30 charge. Often empty cylinders on eBay go for £5 - saving £25.

Of course, if you're going to be spending a lot of time abroad, it may be better to go with a Campingaz 907 cylinder, but these are much more expensive and aren't worth it for UK only camping.

Go down to your local tip and you should be able to get a cylinder for a Fiver. Use the cylinder that "rockford" suggests 'cos it will be far more economic to buy than the Camping Gazz 907 thingy

Correct me please if I am worng,  but isn't the general opinion that, if you plan only to camp in the UK then go for Calor, on the basis its cheaper ( although the cylinders a bigger ),  however IF you plan going to europe - then camping GAZ is the one - as Calor isnt avaliable on the continent,

that is the general rule of thumb simon but we have just been to france and germany with a 4.7 full calour gas bottle and it lasted us for the 2 weeks. it depends how long you are going on the continent for i suppose 17

Calor Gas might not be available here on the 'mainland' but we certainly have plenty of other, similar gases that are not Camping Gaz.
I run my WAECO Combicool fridge on a 5 kg. gas cylinder, no shortage of suppliers either.

          We have used the grill on the CampingGaz stove many times, mostly for quicker to cook food such as crumpets and sausages, as long as the stove has a reasonable wind break it doesn't use that much gas.

Thanks you Guys... We eventually got the gas bottle you all recommeneded from Go Outdoors for £29.99 and the fill up for £12.60. Going testing it out tonight - wish us luck.
