Hi,

New here, my first post so please forgive me if I have put in the wrong place!

We are planning our first camping trip in 8 years, and this weekend will be dragging out our Litchfield Heron Tent for a trial run to remind ourselves how it goes up and give it a check over.  Hopefully it will be in usable condition, or we will be off to the local camp shop for an urgent replacement.

With the frequent heavy showers we have been blessed with this summer, it occured to me that reproofing may be a good idea - do nylon tents need this?  If so, what product should we go for?  Any do's and don'ts would be much appreciated.

I did mine with the spray stuff you buy in camp shops (dont remember what its called now) Sprayed inside and out, i think 2 cans did my 8 man tent. I put it up in the garden on a dry day, followed instructions on can, sprayed tent, left to dry and packed away - dead easy and it worked!

Fabsil proofing is what you want.  You can get it in spray cans or as a liquid to paint on.  The liquid version works out cheaper.  A quick google will find suppliers.

Thanks for the recommendations.  I have come across Fabsil mentioned online, but as with all these things, there are so many alternative products to choose from, its always best to find out first hand which one does do exactly what it says on the tin!

I doubt its breathable fabric as its about 12 years old - how would I be able to tell?

Also, is there any need to clean the tent first?  Its been used about 4 times, but always been put away well aired and completely dry, so hopefully won't have any mould etc.  Any advice please?
